Worldwide finding rare GameCube Discs

Post by Borg Number One » Wed Mar 10, 2021 11:18 pm

Project: Worldwide finding rare / unpublished GameCube Discs
Project: Worldwide finding rare GameCube information

Preface:
It would be great, if the words that I choose in this post will describe the problem in a good way to hit the point.
I hope, some one or many people (with seldom/rare/unpublished GameCube disc treasures) will find this article in google, while searching for GameCube related topics.

Introduction
The past weeks I did use google.com to find and read many, many GameCube related articles about:
GameCube hardware, software, programming, pinouts, GameCube schematics, protocols etc...
Well, while I did the GameCube articles research, I figured out that in the past few days some sites / articles with unique information
did suddenly disappear / suddenly are not available anymore - for example:

The problem
I know, that there is Google cache and that there is web.archive.org.
But, these tools are just usefully, if you already know the (death) GameCube related links.

To fight against this problem, I started to build up a GameCube Links library (html file) - in this way:

Code: Select all

keyword (or: keyword a, keyword b, keyword c)
URL 1

keyword (or: keyword a, keyword b, keyword c)
URL 2
URL 2.1

etc...
...I will publish it - hopefully soon.

While finding and reading all the GameCube related articles, I did also find information about:

GameCube Tech Demos:
  • Mario 128
  • SpaceWorld 2000 Tech Demo ( Link and Ganondorf )

Furthermore I did find information and .iso images about:
GameCube Service Discs / GameCube Aging Discs:

a) GameCube Service Disc v1.0/03
- (Name: Service Disc 1.0 (Disc 1, Revision 0) ; Game ID: 301E01 ; Country: USA ; Maker: Nintendo (01) ; Apploader Date: 2002/09/05)

b) Aging Test For Production. try59 (also known as: "Gamecube Service disc 0.7" =? "Aging Disc DOL-USA Ver. 07" =? "Aging Test For Production")
- (Name: Aging Test For Production. try59 (Disc 1, Revision 7) ; Game ID: 102E01 ; Country: USA ; Maker: Nintendo (01) ; Apploader Date: 20011/11/14)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZ4ElJ48trU -- Nintendo Gamecube Service Disc 0 7 - YouTube ("Gamecube Service disc 0.7" =? "Aging Disc DOL-USA Ver. 07" = "Aging Test For Production")

Furthermore, I did find this page about "GameCube DIAG" / "GameCube DIAG Disc":

https://wiki.mariocube.com/index.php/DIAG -- DIAG - RGDWiki (DIAG for GameCube / GameCube DIAG Disc)

So, I did use google...:
https://www.google.com/search?q="GameCube+diag+disc"

...and I found this:

c) Gamecube Diag disc 2001/06/01
- Diag 2001/06/01 ( DOL-017J-JPN )

https://www.picuki.com/media/2256749546457514030 -- picuki - @galdius_ - Gamecube Diag disc 2001/06/01

Then, I did some further research and I figured out that it is from:
https://www.instagram.com/p/B9RlcF3n8Au/ -- Galdius on Instagram: Gamecube Diag disc 2001/06/01

Image
( http://archive.is/b4StT/335efd4b27325611d562177f6345bc5b2e4f3e2a.jpg)
So, I did create an instagram account and I wrote him a message, if he could dump the Diag 2001/06/01 ( DOL-017J-JPN ) disc please.

d) IRD Diag Ver3.1 (build:03/23/2006)
- DIAG_Ver3_1_1 (Disc 1, Revision 0) DOL-060J-JPN

Finally, I found this page...:
http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title=Nintendo_Gamecube_Asia_Missing -- Nintendo Gamecube Asia Missing - Redump Wiki

...and I thought: Are there more people who:
  • have seldom / rare / unpublished GameCube Discs at home or in the attic or in the cellar?
  • are able to do the same (small) efforts finding other people with seldom / rare GameCube Discs?
In other words:
Dear reader, as I described the problem above: GameCube related links / sites / pages will disappear in future - more and more.
(possible reasons: no more money to host a page with GameCube related content, accidents with the server/harddisk where the GameCube related content is/was stored on, personally accidents, lost access data, no desire to continue a GameCube related homepage, etc...)

So, please help that the problem of GameCube related pages disappearing will not expand to a disappearance issue of rare/unpublished/seldom/developer related GameCube Discs / Disc images / GameCube Disc Dumps an GameCube Disc Photos.

If you have a rare (not for sale / unpublished) GameCube Disc then please do not hesitate to dump it (e.g. with CleanRip), make some Photos and publish/post the news....

Thank you very much.

Can't you rip it with cleanrip?

What's their tool to dump GC discs? Will they be able to copy it with authoring burner and authoring DVDs?

Hey nGNKz, these are really great news. :D :D :D

It would be really awesome, if you could share this thread +++ and its core message / its key message +++:
Worldwide finding rare GameCube Discs
to the forums / to the social platforms / to the popular social media sites where you are present.

Well, there are further news, which might be very important:

Swiss for GameCube +++ since Swiss v0.5r1179 +++ (released just a few days ago) is now able to do:
BCA (112 bytes), PFI and DMI dumping

So, for reasons of (completely GameCube Disc dumping related) preservation
the new Swiss v0.5r1179 is able to dump what CleanRip (https://www.gc-forever.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4450) is currently not able to do.

Just the Wii release of CleanRip is able to dump the BCA of a disc.

So, currently CleanRip for GameCube and Swiss - both together can dump as most as possible of a GameCube DVD.

Furthermore, meanwhile I did some OCR experiments with nGNKz's published photos (and pre-edited / rotated variants):

Image Image Image
Original file:
Image ( https://ngcfans.over-blog.com/2021/10/dvd-de-debug-des-bugs-et-du-fun.html
https://ngcfans-over--blog-com.translate.goog/2021/10/dvd-de-debug-des-bugs-et-du-fun.html?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=de&_x_tr_pto=nui )

Here are some +++online OCR+++ results ( https://ocr.space/ ):

エ - ジング ディスり

--> Google translate did detect something like: "Eijingudisuku"
--> If I translate: "Aging Disc" into japanese,then I get: "エイジングディスク" --> jackpot. :D

Maybe there is some one who can do a better OCR and a better translation. ;)

Well, bringing the GameCube into a homebrew state (for running swiss and/ or CleanRip) is really easy.

You just need a GameCube Game for which a savegame exploit exists. (google)
Or an Action Replay disc which is able to boot "autoexec.dol" (swiss.dol or cleanrip.dol renamed to "autoexec.dol") from FAT32 - 2GB /4GB* SD card. (*=there are 4GB sd cards, which are not sdhc/sdhxc).

In the sense of / with the meaning of rare GameCube Disc preservation:

Thank you very very much, if you could do a Wii-CleanRip +++and+++ a GameCube-CleanRip (cross-check if the Wii and GameCube dumps are the same) of your rare GameCubeDiscs and send the results (CleanRip disc dump, checksum, BCA, PFI and DMI) to redump.org and upload the whole package (maybe at web.archive)

8-)
