mame-gc supported games proposal

Post by infact » Thu Jan 26, 2012 8:49 pm

Hey guys,
as some of you already know, it is possible to have M.A.M.E. on the GameCube.
But, as the gc has a limited amount of memory and processing power, it is not possible to emulate all the games M.A.M.E. supports.

So I have to choose which games to include. Now i need you ;-)
What classic games do you like to be supported in mame-gc?

Emu_kidid already told me, that he likes the four player classics like TMNT and Simpsons to be supported.
Personally i like the Pacman-series, Arkanoid and Tetris (all time favourite)... but there is moooooar :D
I will also include support for as many of the Street Fighter games as possible.

added by:
  • Megalomaniac: Ninja Gaiden
Naxil: CPS1 games, especially Final Fight. <== maybe some games will not be supported
As some arcade boards use the same or similar hardware, several M.A.M.E. drivers support more than one game.

For example the pacman driver supports the following games:
  • PuckMan
    Pac-Man Plus
    Ms. Pac-Man
    Crush Roller
    Ponpoko
    Eyes
    Mr. TNT
    Gorkans
    Lizard Wizard
    The Glob
    Dream Shopper
    Van Van Car
    Ali Baba and 40 Thieves
    Jump Shot
    Shoot the Bull
    Big Bucks
    Driving Force
    Eight Ball Action
    Porky
    MTV Rock-N-Roll Trivia (Part 2)
    Woodpecker
So it is safe to say, they all will be included.

Long story, but you get what I mean.

So tell me, what classic games I should (test and if possible) include.

EDIT: added some suggestions.

Would it be possible to emulate Famicom Disk Drive with MAME?
Because i want to play all Mario JnR on TV.

Best regards.

sumas, the nes is a home console and therefore not supported by M.A.M.E., but by M.E.S.S. instead.

But you should try fceu-gx... it has FDS support. ;-)

You could split the drivers into several dols, just like mame4all(http://chui.dcemu.co.uk/mame4all.html) did on Dreamcast. You can make dol of CPS/TMNT drivers, etc.
According to the efficency, I recommand you to include games drivers older than CPS2.
As a fan of Contra, I'd like to play Contra and Super Contra(Contra and Super Contra are different on hardware) on GC.

SrTommy: IDE-EXI support will be included (i have one too ;-))
And thanks for the list with the driver names, that makes it a lot easier!

bearteam: good idea, looks like you can read my mind :D
Talked with emu_kidid some days ago about a similar thing.

The overall plan I have is this:
When you start mame-gc.dol it shows a fancy, libwiigui powered launcher, which displays your roms and some info, a screenshot, whatsoever.
In the background it copies compressed different mame cores to aram.
I think of one big core that supports nearly all games, that have low memory requierements
and up to three smaller cores that feature games/systems which are memory hungry.

When you start a game in the launcher, it determines the right core, decompresses it to main ram and launches it with the right rom.
When you decide to leave this game it jumps back to the loader and lets you choose the next game.
It then should determine if it uses the same core like the last and if not, free the main ram and decompress the needed core to launch it.
So the memory hungry games have enough ram to use.
But this is a long way to go... ;-) First i want to have a working, but ugly mame-gui featured version.

I can remember spending like 6-8hrs at a time in our local arcade jamming away at this game when I was a kid. NES version was OK too.

This is going to be awesome. MAME on the go for me!

Something like MAME-GC would be awesome!
Personally, I don't care too much for most of the post-1983 arcades. But most of the "Golden Age" machines kick ass. Good lists to start with would be these:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_age ... cade_games
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_age ... cade_games

My personal favorites are definitely: Space Invaders, Frogger and Popeye.
Being able to play these on my Gamecube would be like a dream come true! :D
