Mod chips available in 2018?
I am looking to install a mood chip on my GC to run home brew but I can only seem to find knock off Xeno GC's on eBay and I am wondering if there are any places still selling authentic mod chips in 2018. I have heard many very mixed reviews on the Chinese knock off Xeno GC's and I would like to avoid them if possible. I am looking to burn DVD-R disks and run them, I don't want to have to use SD Media Launcher. Any help is very greatly appreciated!

Nothing wrong with "knockoff" xenos. The firmware is open source and anyone can make one. Your other options are finding a WKF, WASP, WODE, Qoob or Viper but those are all pretty expensive these days.

I've heard a few complaints about them burning out after a few minutes or a few hours of use or they just straight up didn't work. They are prety cheap though so I think I'm just going to go for it. So long as it doesn't damage my GameCube it won't be a very expensive mistake if it doesn't work anyways.Streetwalker wrote:Nothing wrong with "knockoff" xenos. Most of the issues come from poor installation, nothing else.

That's comforting to know. Thanks for the help!Streetwalker wrote:Most of the issues come from poor installation, nothing else.

You're welcome. I recommend the wired install if you do get one as it's a lot easier and has a much higher success rate.

I was planning on doing the wires install. I have a lot of experience soldering but not on stuff as small as that. No point in me risking it.

Has no one made an opensource IPL replacement modchip?
With Arduino or similar.
looking through moving boxes I found my old GC with Viper GC installed, I think it's the PRO too.
I'll be looking into making the SD loader default boot, and maybe HDMI mod my GC

It's not feasible with arduino, but it can be done with really cheap hardware.
For your viper, just install iplboot on it and you're set.

Well sure that works, but if I want to mod any other gamecube in the future my only option is xeno-gc clones/diy xeno?Streetwalker wrote: ↑Fri Aug 17, 2018 1:33 pmIt's not feasible with arduino, but it can be done with really cheap hardware.

I've looked around for any diy IPL guides but not found anyting.

There is one open source design but it's not friendly for end-users and I disapprove of the design so I won't link it here. I am interested in providing an option in the future, but I haven't really started working on a friendly solution yet.

It's not just about soldering, the CPLD has to be programmed and a bit of software needs to be written. And then it needs to be documented.
