Wiikey fusion heat issue? solid blue light on "init wiikey"

Post by rice cake » Tue Feb 25, 2014 7:30 pm

I´ve recently run into a weird issue with a WKF and just wanted to ask if anybody ever had this problem.

The wiikey seems to have trouble to initialise the sd card when its warm, meaning if the cube has been running
for more than 1 hour it needs to "cool of" for at least 15 minutes before it will go past the "init wiikey" screen,
otherwise it will stay at said screen and the WKF lights up solid blue.

This is the 8th or 9th cube i´ve modded and i can definitively say it´s the main chips fault.
I have already done the following to determine that:

-used the exact same setup of a different motherboard --> still the same
-tried all firmwares available twice --> still the same
-tried all my sd cards --> still the same
-checked wiring --> still the same
-run without top part of the case --> still the same
-replaced only the main wkf chip with a different one --> works like a charm
-re soldered ALL contacts on the faulty chip to make 100% sure every thing has contact
(pretty much because i was out of options and hoped something easy would solve the problem) --> still the same

All tests have been made with a wavebird controller and a remote power switch to ensure the cube was not touched/moved at all while testing.

Both wkf have been tested multiple times with melee for at least 6 hours each ( 2 cpu battle with 1 stock + "slow"-function on bigben controller = 3 loading cycles from sd every 25-30 seconds), and not once did an error occur.

I´m out of ideas right now,
anybody got any suggestions?/knows the cause of this strange phenomenon?
