Qoob Chip Modchip Information
Qoob Pro & Qoob SX were modchips produced for the Nintendo Gamecube, very similar in features to the Viper GC series, each acting as an IPL replacement, with 128Kb and 2Mb programmable ROM receptively. The Qoob Pro was an improved variant of the tmbinc ipl replacement with added security, USB flashing support for the Pro series and DVD/ELF flashing for the SX. It was initially bundled with a full size case replacement for around $99 USD and sold very well.
Features
Pro version
The pro version of the Qoob chip is intended for developers and/or advanced users. The biggest differences from the sx version is the USB upgrade feature and 16Mbit flash memory.
A Qoob Pro modchip installed inside of a Gamecube.

* Support for all regions (PAL, USA and Japan).
* Upgrades via USB, DVD or network (network upgrade requires a Nintendo GameCube Broadband Adapter).
* 16Mbit on-board flash memory for application storage.
* BIOS selection/control.
* Support for all retail hardware, including Panasonic Q.
* Fastboot of original GameCube discs.
* Integrated media compatibility check.
* IPL replacement compatibility via SD card or network.
* Streaming Audio Fix.
* MP3 player software included. (removed in later BIOS revisions)
* Status LED
* Support for DVD-R, DVD+R and MiniDVD
* Support for multiple games per disc
* Support for multi-disc games.
* Support for Datel Action Replay.

Released after the pro version, the sx version is a stripped down version of the Qoob Pro chip, missing the usb upgrade feature and containing only 1Mbit of flash memory. The sx is equipped with a backup read-only bios preventing users or malicious code from "breaking" the chip.

Hi emu_kidid, I have got the SX version which has 1 Mb Internal Memory.
How can I use to load homebrew in this Internal Memory.
In Pro version you can upload homebrew with usb port, but in Sx I couldnt find any tutorial about it.
I have the internet adapter and bios 1.3c upload by DVD.
Thx.
PD Is vbagx last version ok? It doesnt detect sd with this version. This sd work with older version.

The Qoob SX has 1MBit memory, so it's 128Kbytes. You cannot load homebrew into the internal memory, you can only load from DVD or over the BBA.
Latest VBAGX is not ok, I am still working on reviving it for GC.

I've tried many times on my Qoob SX, and I can't load from BBA, do you know how to do it correctly?

When connecting my chip to my desktop pc (Win7 64bit), it wont install the driver. I've tested it on my laptop (Vista 32 bit), and that works fine.
Any ideas what to do?

Reason it won't install the driver is that it's probably a 32-bit version and you have to have a 64-bit driver. So you either have to find a 64-bit driver or use a Virtual Machine that's 32-bit like the Win XP Mode for Windows 7 Ultimate.

A friend of mine installed the chip, when booting = Green leds.
I thought "Succes" but no, when flashing a bios to the chip, I only get black screen, and thats about it. When flashing GCOS, I get the normal boot screen. Quite frustrating..
Any ideas?

Yeah, this seems to be happening on a lot of Qoobs I've seen lately. Where did you buy yours from? where I got it from, they offered a refund/exchange.

I bought from Eurasia, is it sure that it is a faulty chip? Since I've paid extra taxes for about 40 dollars, just to get it in country (Europe, Denmark)

I tried a lot to get it working, tried another GC which had an already installed Qoob, tried a working qoob with the wiring from the faulty one, all the setups pointed to a faulty chip.

The question is who "they" are. You might be able to talk eurasia into replacing it i guess.

I upgraded my motherboard to this

It seems to be a problem specific to the usb controller on the board - I've tried a bunch of different settings in the bios but nothing helped. The qoob still works fine on other PCs.
Just wondering if anyone else had problems like this, and if there's a way to fix it besides buying a usb to pci card or something...

i'd try a hub first, before i buy a new card...
do you have another computer to check that against?
(to make sure it's not the chip that lost its magic blue smoke)

I bought one of these at a local store (instant gratification ftw):

..works fine with the qoob.
In other news, I can't seem to get my gc to read burned discs...I even tried to lower the resistance from the laser's potentiometer (down to 170 from 375 at the moment)...still the same read errors. Tried with dvd-r and dvd+r (both 4.7GB discs).

Well nevermind that, I re-burned on the dvd-r media at 2x and it works! FINALLY
edit: seems I spoke too soon, the disc reads successfully 1/20 times, if that. Maybe I need to hunt out some better media... :/
edit 2: I re-burned on the dvd+r media at 4x (turns out 2x wasn't being reported as "supported" for my drive/media combo), and qoob will successfully launch the game every time.
However, GCOS fails to run it every time. This is a bummer since I've specifically been trying to get this game to work with wiird. Guess I'll take it to another thread though since the qoob is working fine :p
