Help, WASP issue

Post by Sp33dFr34k » Tue Nov 12, 2019 7:52 am

So, I have bought this orange JAP Gamecube, supposedly modded by citrus3000psi. The seller told me he'd never gotten the game booting part to work from the WASP, although the micro SD is visible in SWISS and homebrew can be booted. When trying to boot a game from it, it just shows a black screen.

So my thinking was, maybe the WASP itself is corrupted. I tried flashing the 688 SWISS menu + fw on it, to kind of give it a fresh start. First try, it hangs at 0%. Waited a long time, then shut it down. WASP doesn't boot at all anymore now. I have alternatives through the disc drive so I can still get into SWISS through that. Tried burning the recovery ISO, but when I execute that DOL file is just gives me a garbled screen and the WASP still doesn't work. I verified the soldering, and it looks very good to the eye.

Without the micro SD, the Gamecube boots to the bootscreen just fine. When inserting the micro SD, the Gamecube won't even show the bootscreen, just a black screen comes up, so nothing happens.

Do you guys have any suggestion what else I can try? I'm running out of ideas here. Tried reflashing several times, and it says successful every time, but still doesn't work.

Thanks in advance.

I have a WASP GC I'll update to the latest Swiss to get to the bottom of this issue once and for all (I'm hoping I have the same result as you so I can work out what's going on).

Thanks a lot emu_kidid, so are you saying this is a known issue? If it is, it's actually giving me hope.. :)

I have bad news, I updated mine to r688 just fine, no issues. I think something is either wrong with your installation, your DIP switches or your WASP/WKF itself. Re-check everything, try different cards, reinsert flex cables etc and see where you can get to with it.

One thing I didn't try is to use the .fzn.fw file too. I'll give that another try tonight.

Thanks a lot for trying this out personally, really appreciate it. Already tried reinserting the flex cables and different sd cards. Since Dan modded this Cube I think the soldering should be fine, so I won't mess with that. Didn't think of messing with the jumpers though, would that be able to cause this as well you think? I'll open it up again and do some tests in that case.

If you're seeing a black screen immediately on boot it means that the WASP is causing the GameCube to hang/wait for a response when it attempts to reset the "DVD drive". The jumpers probably won't fix it to be honest but anything is worth trying at this point.
