It is not needed, but won't harm if you do it.

Bridging those two points tells the GC that something is inserted in that expansion port.

Pretty sure the viper uses a dataline on that port. Exp port needs to be active to use it.

The above statement is not quite correct; the signal from the expansion port will ALWAYS be there if there's anything inserted.

From the top of my head:
needed to be connected, otherwise the chip doesn't get a signal.
This was NOT necessary if you wanted to connect the BBA and have it function as a on/off switch.
(eg remove the BBA = chip not functioning)

I did it like this, as I'm never going to part from both the Q and BBA....
The only useful purpose for this is to check if the chip works as it should.
(Thus, the BBA's connectors act as a pass-through device for the chip.
If you DON'T use a BBA, you'd NEED to connect the bridge.)

Better to remove the solder, I'd say.

EDITED TO MAKE THE BOLD PART STAND OUT FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE: NOW WHERE DID I STATE THE OPPOSITE?

also if you don't have a BBA you need to have the usb adapter in for it to boot.
