WODE installed, can't boot games or even the config iso

Post by andzlay » Mon Apr 02, 2012 9:11 pm

Hey there!

I finally made it to solder the 4 cables and installed a wode in my GC.
At first the wode was on firmware 2.3 and it did not boot any game. Then I tried to downgrade to 1.28 and then the GC showd up the error like it shows while to Wode upgrade/downgrade procedure after 3 seconds in the GC menu.
So finally I went up to 2.9B but I still can't boot any game or even the config iso.

What is the right procedure to boot a game with wode?
I do the following:
  • - Insert SD in Wode
    - Boot GC
    - Select "select game" in wode menu
    - Select the VFAT RW somewhat (my 4GB SD card with mario kart double dash in ISO folder)
    - Select the game - the wode says the game title "0 reads, 0kb"
    - I select "start game" in GC IPL menu - it says "insert disc"
I also tried to use the reset switch on the GC, but even after the reboot the GC jumps to the IPL menu...

So, did you actually downgrade to 1.28? While downgrading/upgrading you will ALWAYS get the "error has occured" on the gamecube. Just let it go and let the WODE downgrade itself. It will do it regardless of the error on the cube. If you can only load games off of 1.28 or lower firmware it means you got stuck with a WODE that has a slow FPGA chip.

andzlay, sounds to me like you need to check some of your data connections (32 pin connector) on the GC side.

The fact that you can upgrade/etc sounds like you have nice power going to the device but some issue lies in the way the GC communicates with the wode as it doesn't even ask it to read from the "disc". Maybe also check your eject switch?

I'm pretty sure Andzlay is using one of my adapters Emu.

ah ok.

Connection shouldn't be an issue then ;)
1. Try having the correct region set on the WODE
2. Try setting WODE to autoload 'cfg' (the gc homebrew that lets you boot games from it instead of the screen)
3. let us know the behaviour of the blue LED if you can from the WODE as all of the steps you mentioned above happen.

Actually, after reading a bit more carefully it sounds like your lidswitch is open.

haha classic - cost me at least 30 mins last time, too :P
yep, the lid must be closed! alternatively you can just put a blob of solder on the connection under those two leavers so they're closed forever..
please search before you ask - a lot has been discussed already!

oh just a warning to everbody who does this: better add a switch so you can still play 2 disc games...

Thats the reason I left the original GC lidswitch intact. You can toggle the actual lid to switch discs then. Putting a solder blob and then wiring in a different switch would kinda defeat the purpose. :/

A lid switch built in to the gamepad would be nice^^ I'm so lazy I wouldn't like to change discs. On the other hand I don't even own a 2-disc-game (yet).^^
