If you're looking for the worst possible way to boot homebrew on the Q, PSO is the way to go. :P

Common guys, it's not like that! I'm not trying to let you lot do "all the hard work" I have stated here that I was willing to learn how to dump the firmware if instructed to help get things moving, I'm the kind of person to make the impossible possible or help push things of interest to happen :D Many projects that has seen the light of day have emerged to actually happening, usually it is those that no-one would never thought of doing simply because of "lack of interest", and ironically that becomes of interest to everyone!

So please please dont take it the wrong way, I have my Q and I'm willing to see if this is possible and I'm sure many of you would be quite delighted with the results :) I like to think that emu_kidid would like this too.

But the only "hard work" you seem to be doing is pestering people to do it for you.

I dont find that amusing, I really am trying to not come across that way, and it's not like I have been posting here everyday, I have remained patience with emu_kidid, especially since he seemed to be the only one that did want to see this through.

I suppose I can relate. If I thought this approach would get me a free Xbox to Saturn controller adapter, I'd be persistent too.

Lets say Emu dumps the firmware of the Q's V8 drive and gets xenogc working. Then what will be the next topic "Can someone flash my xenogc to work on my Q?" How were you planning on flashing the Xeno? It's not that easy trust me I know I built a clone a few months ago. I had to make a JTAG cable and fix a old desktop computer to flash it. Just a complete waste of time and money but I wanted to see if i could build a xeno in the long run it was cheaper just to buy one from ebay.

Like I said just find a Qoob or leave that really rare collectors system alone and find a normal gamecube there problem solved. I'm not trying to say anything bad about the Xenogc but its a pain to use. Burn discs then for some reason they don't work tweak the pot still don't work tweak the pot again. Just a pain I had so much more luck with my Qoob reading discs then Xeno even with the same laser and at the same pot. On Qoob if it gets a DRE it will re-read the sector as many times as it needs or you set on the menu screen on Xeno you have 3-5 tries and thats it your getting a DRE your game freezes and you start dropping F-bombs because you forgot to save.

I'm sorry if I seem like a Xeno hater but I have had really bad luck with this chip homemade or china made doesn't matter it always finds a way to piss me off. The only thing I like about it is that it re-patches the drive every time the lid opens so action replay can be used with backups no problem till you hit a DRE

Progress is slow, but there's now a "System" device in Swiss (which I've always wanted), the next step is to add DVD drive firmware/memory dumping to it, then you can give us the necessary dumps.

https://github.com/emukidid/swiss-gc/commits/master to see the changes, you can thank Streetwalker for his work so far towards it.

The next step would be the hardest, to dissect a known compatible drive firmware and see what the equivalent functions look like on a Q drive firmware and then hook them up to the Xeno code. Once all that is done, the Xeno firmware needs to be compiled, flashed, tested.

Just as I'm writing all this I can see that it's really not going to happen in any time soon unless if someone is really really keen to get it done and puts the time in themselves.

@Undead Sega
how do you use your panny Q?
as a GC only or do you actually play DVD movies from it?

did you region mod to NTSC-U?
did you unlock the drive to play out of region DVD movie titles?

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasnt there a flaw in the system that would let you use out of region DVD's? If i remember correctly cant you also place burned gamecube games in the system and they would play normally just like they were real? I dont think the burned games are true though then why would people go through the trouble of installing a qoob.

You can't play burnt games on the Q but apparently it has a better laser and it accepts full size discs which makes it superior for DVD backups (which are still the best way to load backups until we get a nicer drive emulator than the WASS).

Streetwalker do you know of a ready replacement for the Q DVD drive or laser?
doesnt matter how damn good it is compared to the GC drive...at least with a GC its easy to find a replacement laser/drive
try finding a replacement for the Q...

the best way to load titles is any method which does not use the Q DVD drive to save/extend its lifespan...
this is one drawback of a xeno hacked firmware for Q, it will still always need to use a disc even for booting into swiss
....and what about the Qs that have a broken DVD drive? xeno wont do anything to help and the Q would be nothing more than an ornament...

Ohhh damn man! I'm really sorry!!

I plan to use my Panasonic Q very much like a Gamecube that can play all regions and backups, also with the ability to play DVD without having to switch to a different machine all the time :D

Also I don't think I'm able to do the NTSC-U mod, I cant even get my console to have everything in english! :(

I know you're probably going to say to go ahead and use a Qoob modchip (let alone by one), but I still really really want to see if the XenoGC is capable of (and I'm sure of that too, just a matter for it to recognize the slightly different DVD drive it's soldered on) :)
