SD Card Speed

Apologies if this is the wrong board to post this question.
I boot into Swiss using the Datel SD Loader disc and SD card reader. I have a 2GB SD Card (Dane Elec manufacturer) in Memory card slot 2 with swiss and cleanrip-gc.dol.
Ripping a disc to that SD card takes about 30mins but as it is only 2GB I can only rip 1 disc at a time!
I have now purchased an SD2SP2 and have tried with 2 different FAT32 Micro SD cards (16GB - samsung & 32GB kingston) and it takes about 40minutes to rip the same disc.
Any ideas why it would be slower? Is there something I can try to get it closer to the 30minute mark that I see with the memory card 2 slot sd card?
I have quite a lot of gamecube games (50ish) and I want to create backups of them so 10mins saved ripping each would be good!
