I remember there was a version of sd-boot that emu_kidid released at one point that wouldn't work if you sent it to the BBA via netcat (which I was doing to avoid wasting so many blank discs). Compressing with dolLZ reallocates the execution address in RAM and it fixed it, though you had to specifically use version 2.

Thank you so much for this. I was always wondering why I couldn't get USB-Boot to work, and now it does. I just had to register here to say thank you. =)

I found another program to compress dols called DOLPAK by softdev
it uses 7zip.
