Hi Ralf!

I was referred over here by Dybble's over at http://gamehacking.org, he said you may be able to find a hack code we've both been looking into, but we've not managed to work out yet for this game; wanted to ask if you could help crack this nut, please?

We've been trying to figure out: maxing out chips.
The closest I could find was goemon_guy's Gecko codes; http://geckocodes.org/?c=GREE08 , specifically the folder modifier codes. (as for him: was never able to talk to him, all links I could find lead to accounts that don't have any timestamps less than a few years old). Anyways, those folder modifier codes; The XXs correspond to the chip number (the chip's number in the game, minus 1, then converted to hex. ie: the Roll Navi chip is #121, so 120, it's hex is 78).

Been after this kind of code for a while myself; like the Roll chip, only two guaranteed in game. The cap is 5, so you can only get the other three from that damn slot machine: in all my years playing and replaying, I've only gotten one more, EVER. <head desk>

Well, there's two problems with goemon's codes:
1) It only gives the chip entry in a slot in the blue folder, and I think the yellow folder as well (which causes another problem in the second problem). But not a quantity. Like the first chip, the green Cannon, you start with 10; use two, and check the blue folder, it reads 8/10. Get 20 more, it's 28/30, and is colored red to show you've reach the quantity cap. Overwrite with a Roll chip, quantity shows up as 0/0.
2) It overwrites the chip in that slot. Permanently. Like if I use it at the start of the game to overwrite the Cannon chip with the Roll chip, even though there's plenty of cannons in the intro level, it neither increase the hacked Roll chip, reverts it to a Cannon, nor starts a new Cannon count in the yellow folder.
So, I think his codes are a total bust.

So, was hoping if you would be able to figure out an effective way to increase the quantity of chips in some manner? Like if it were possible to just hack a chip in cleanly to the yellow folder (and I just have to fill in the XXs for an empty slot, the chip type, and the quantity cap: no problem, I can do that much)(or like a 'primer' code to dump them all in at the start of the game in an empty yellow folder, for ease of use), or modify it once acquired normally, or a multiplier for when chips are picked up (hopefully wouldn't matter if picked up from destroyed viruses, from the in-game e-mails, or from the green/blue/purple 'data cubes' in the levels)?

I lost my old save to a corrupted memory card, but if it helps, here's some info on the chips I remember being hard to max out, due to rarity, or needing to be "not TOO good" at killing a specific enemy (like with getting the boss weapon chips, not the Navi chips, at the boss simulator). Also the Bass chip since it's cool, but kinda useless by the time you can get it;
Chip        #hex quantity cap
shotgun    03 30
v-gun       04 20
x-gun       05 20
spreader   06 10
heat shot 0B 30
heat x      0D 20
sword      16 20
elecswrd  1B 10
frbld        1C 10
Aqbld      1D 10
elecbld    1E 10
slasher    27 30
wrecker   3A 20
cannonbl  3B 10
HAMMER   3C 5
3-way      44 20
Guard       59 10
Recover10 5d 15
+30          5E 10
+80          5F 5
+150        60 5
+300        61 5
Popup      6C 5
Roll          78 5
Bass        88 1
(some of these chips are default in the starting folder, dunno if that complicates the issue. Like if just putting them into the yellow folder, to overwrite them with 'themselves', that seems to not corrupt them. ie; for that 'primer codeset' idea, putting them into the yellow folder in a certain order to avoid the overwrite problems)

I know that making codes for this game is kind of a bitch because of how it stores data, so I really appreciate any effort you look into this. Oh, also, I'm using the NTSC, and got Dolphin running on my computer (and gecko/homebrew on my Wii), dunno how much that'll affect things.
Thanks ahead of time, and good luck!

A code to maxing out the chips already exists for the US (and EU) version of the game.

NTSC-U - Action Replay code format:

Code: Select all

Can Hold Up To 99 Of Any Chip [goemon_guy]
JJCY-UWM5-G12FG
1BYN-50DV-9RX2W
9VHW-6NMF-PQRW6

NTSC-U - WiiRD/Gecko code format:

Code: Select all

Can Hold Up To 99 Of Any Chip [goemon_guy]
0838299F 00000063
0096002C 00000000

However, the 'Have All Battle Chips' code below gives you all 137 battle chips fully maxed. BTW, the code is combinable with the 'Can Hold Up To 99 Of Any Chip' code to have 99 of each chip instead of the default max values.

Really! I've been looking for ages, and could never find that! Let's give it a whirl~
<does so>

Ahhh, so close! Of those two NTSC ones you gave, Gecko one didn't work, AR one gave error message; "Zero 3 code not supported"
And goemon's "can hold 99" also is bugged: just makes the chips red at the quantities they're at, not at max.... and then also 0/0s them if you get another. XP

Like I am told that "Pretty much every code either requires asm or a pointer." and "well, i see some of these codes use pointers. that means simple porting from pal to ntsc u wont be possible"..
A little more involved, but still possible?

I'll ask someone if they can add these. I'm pretty sure I can't do that myself, though I would if I could.
Please tell, Ralf I said, "thank you!" He is an amazing code hacker and I am happy I witnessed him hack a code one more time.
Thank you for baring with me, Xuncu. I'm sorry I was unable to help you, but I am glad, Ralf could.
Thank you for keeping me up to date as well. :)
