480p option hacks

Post by theclaw » Thu Jul 24, 2014 2:21 pm

Has there been research on how practical it'd be to add a progressive option (or methods such as checking the SRAM), to games deemed bug-free enough in 480p to warrant the effort?
As we know modchips like XenoGC can only load homebrew from disc. So their users have to swap to force 480p on disc based games.

Eh?

I don't know about your Xeno, but mine loads DVD backups direct from disc and homebrew discs...
and if I want to force a non-progressive title to 480p, then I boot into swiss, and put my disc in drive or load title from SD, select 480p / 576p in swiss options and boot

Did you mean something different?

I think he meant patching the ISO to get 480p without booting it from Swiss.

Qoob modchip can boot 480p directly
What's wrong with using swiss?? It's one extra step too many??? Boohoo

Well swapping discs is a bummer I suppose.

I think he wants to have a seemingly geniune gamecube, the original experience. Just a little better than that.
Personally I have autoload and not autoboot and it's pissing me off to no end, but I have to live with it.

Just seems even more annoying to have to swap a dvd as well.
My preference is to just install a wfk, but some prefer discs and I'll allow that.

Doesn't holding B in on boot allow you to turn on 420p? Oh, and if I am not wrong you could try patching the isos before you burn them. Well, if you know how. If you find swiss video patch you could attempt to apply it to your iso so that is is always 480p, or even 576p for the games that support it. Although I'm not sure if it's worth the effort when you could just use swiss.

It's probably possible to make a custom XenoGC firmware that load arbitrary patches from an SD Gecko.

I didn't think of that. Patching isos wouldn't help those who want to use genuine games.

Actually, an even better idea is to make the Xeno trick the GC into loading a dol from the SD Gecko, then this dol can be Swiss or a stripped down version that does the patching.

xeno cannot function without a disc in the drive..
so why not load a swiss disc?
it doesnt have to be the newest version of swiss...just load swiss. then from the browser do a search on SD gecko for the current version of swiss

the limitation of xeno will always be that it needs some type of disc in the drive...

I have qoob pro. Just trying to look out for the interests of xeno users, much easier to obtain chip.

Because you can just pop in a game disc instead of swapping which is annoying.

Problem is the way the xeno works. It loads the disc ONLY. So in order to use hacks with xeno you need to use a modded iso or swap with swiss.

No other option.

No. You know the Xeno shell right ? This is a custom dol that is packed with the firmware. And since the Xeno has full DVD control it can also apply patches to games.

It's possible if you kill the entire shell to have it auto boot a game and apply patches.

Oh right, mine is bugged and I cant load the shell so I forgot about it. Anyone making xeno clones with a fairly high amount of experience could potentially make a xeno v3 which could add these hacks.
