Help Hacking Paper Mario TTYD, Trasitions

Post by HLLetsPlay » Sun May 17, 2015 11:46 am

So I recently found the AR code for true 16:9 widescreen, not the native Dolphin hack, and I applied it to PM TTYD. It works really well! No visible pop in I have noticed. Though there are a few issues that are really bothersome, which are the only things keeping this from making the game perfect. Trasitions.

I understand that this might be impossible, I've never actually gone into the ISO and changed anything, but if you could help me with changing a few things, I would be very thankful!

1. Loading screen/Battle exit transitions. The screen fades to black, but only in the 4:3 aspect, the edges are still visible and it's very bad when transitioning, you see the game loading and unloading all sorts of textures and areas. I was wondering if there is a way to make the entire 16:9 screen black, by editing anything in the ISO, or adding an AR code.

2. Text boxes. Same as above, when talking to an NPC in the game, a diolog box comes up and it changes the 4:3 aspect by adding black bars where the screens aspect use to be, the only problem is it doesn't add them in the 16:9 obviously, as 16:9 wasn't intended for the game. If there is a way to make the game bring down the bars around the edge, or even remove the bars, I would like that very much.

3. Other small things I've noticed that aren't TOO bad, but are a little annoying are in battle, the Audience member count, which goes away when selecting a target, still pokes out at the bottom left of the screen. And a rather big issue in battles, is the pointer to select an enemy is off center (Along with their health bar, not in the image as I hadn't tattled Fuzzy's), as there aspect ration was shifted.

I do understand if these issues can't be fixed, but I would really like some help in finding some workarounds. I am planning on playing this game on my youtube channel and I am sort of a perfectionist when it comes to quality. If it can't be fixed, it can't be fixed. But please try to see what you can do. Thank you for your help!

Hmm... I can't reproduce your aspect ratio issues on real GameCube hardware. The 16:9 code works fine, so it must be a Dolphin emulator problem.

May I ask what code and settings you are using? I'm using the AR code for Widescreen 16:9 v2 on one of your old posts viewtopic.php?t=2375

Is there anything you can suggest to make dolphin run like the actual GameCube? The only thing I'm changing is Adding the widescreen code, changing the display to 1080p, Making the channels 8 samples at max setting, and 16x for the max quality.

What does it look like on the hardware? Are the issues I showed in screen shots not there?

I just wanted to check back in, I tried a few other things but nothing has worked so far. This is the screen shot from battles, Do you get this with actual hardware and the AR code?

The Health bar, the pointer for selecting an enemy, and actually the selecting your move spinner in general are not pointing in correctly. Along with the audience counter being visible in the bottom left. Are you getting this in the actual hardware, if so, is there something you would know to do about it? And if you are not, is there a way to fix dolphin to run like the GameCube?

As I told you before, the 16:9 code works fine on real GameCube. It's obviously a Dolphin specific problem, so you should ask the developers of the emulator for help.

Thank you for the help, I'll probably do work in post to fix the issues. I tried downloading the Pal version, as I saw your game was in, I assume German. Though in Dolphin the Pal game has the same bug with the 16:9 AR code. So I'm just going to work with the glitch and edit out the errors, as 1080p is much more important to me then the screen fading all the way. Again thank you for the help. If you do ever hear something, please let me know. Thanks.
