Widescreen GameCube games on Wii

Post by deku_scrub » Sat Oct 26, 2013 2:48 pm

Hello guys!

I did it in the past, but I'm out of news for some time...

I a WODE Jukebox owner that I use on my Wii, and I used to load Swiss to enable Widescreen on an emulated GC ISO on my Wii by WODE.

I ask: Does it still being the optimal method to play GC GAMES in widescreen on Wii in my case?

Is it possible to patch de ISO to enable Widescreen or something like that?

Widescreen Hack is so awesome for playing games like Super Mario Sunshine now a days! (:

Thanks!

I use this ISO (just this works with wode...) http://sourceforge.net/projects/gc-linu ... &download=

and load the swiss.dol from SDGecko.

Then change to WODE and Load Mario Sunshine, and force widescreen.

Isn't there a easyer way to do this? I don't want to further hack my Wii, I prefer to keep it's system as fresh as possible and don't patch MIOS or something like that...

two options:

1. use the wode menu to boot swiss.iso from USB
once swiss is booted and on screen, eject swiss.iso from wode and load mariosunshine.iso
then use swiss to read the "disc"

or

2. use the wode menu to boot swiss.iso from USB
then in swiss you can boot mariosunshine.iso from SDgecko

I posted this here because It is not as simple as it appears to be.

First, SWISS iso does not work with WODE... it shows the question mark on the Wii menu.
Second, if I create a homebrew ISO and put 400MB of dummy file, it also does not work.

What I currently do is, use that SDLOAD version posted there in my reply, boot it, then load SWISS from the SD card.
When It loads, I remove the SDGecko and put the Memory Card in its place.
When it asks me to select what I want, I eject the SDLOAD disk from WODE and put Mario Sunshine ISO, and on the Screen I select WODE.
It freezes if I leave the SDLOAD disk instead of switching to Super Mario Sunshine. This is just to interface with WODE.
Then On Screen, I select Mario Sunshine and apply the Widescreen Patch.

I need to do this everytime I want to play! :(

Any ideas?

I've done this many times before...
I will take a look again to confirm if I am missing any vital step from what I've described above...but I have loaded swiss iso directly from wode and then ejected to load another title within swiss

Same here, I have loaded Swiss.iso direct from USB/SD on Wode. You might want to check you're using the correct region, or perhaps it rejects it if it's got the same internal name/header as the config disc (el torito, etc).

Ok, I just checked and my WODE settings are all fine.
I'm on: BOOT VER: 1.1 WODE VER: 02.9B FPGA VER: 02.00 HW VER: 1
USA Wii USA region on WODE.

How can I grab de Nightly build? Did emu_kidid meant the nightly build of the ISO, the Swiss.dol or both?
I don't know how to compile, guess it is because I never really tryed, and don't even know if I need to stay on Linux or install aditional things on Windows.

Last, how do I change the ISO header? Infact it does says 'EL TORITO' like the WODE config ISO.
And what about the SDLoad ISO region? Does it have any impact?

Everything was suposed to work, there even are guides explaining that WODE needs dummy files - or a ISO with at least 100MB - to boot, and even with this I cannot make my created homebrew ISOS to boot.

This post will certainly help more users in the future, since I already read about the same problems I am having on some forum searched by Google.

Nightly build viewtopic.php?f=25&t=1375

the Wode header patcher from infact is only required if you want to use a homebrew iso with Wode autoload..
More info here on the wiki: http://www.gc-forever.com/wiki/index.ph ... ss_on_WODE
If you just want to load swiss iso on your WBFS drive, then no need to patch the header..

Getting back to the widescreen patching...
There is no single method that will enable widescreen for all games without side effects.
The "best effort" method patches the code to modify the projection matrix, enlarging the horizontal viewing angle. However this normally results in objects at the sides being clipped while they're still visible. In some cases it also changes 2D objects, or for games that use a precalculated matrix it may have no effect at all. Other games may not even use the projection hardware and use software rendering instead.
The only way to guarantee a particular game will work perfectly in widescreen mode is to look at its code and manually patch it.

Yeah I knew about Infact's patch.

What I meant is that 'in fact' my ISO is named as EL TORITO... lol I guess I mistyped after reading Infact's username so often :p

I will test it today and post the results... by the way, why can't I boot my created homebrew discs with WODE?

Yesss! YES YES!!!

The latest Nightly ISO works perfectly!! :D
And I liked the new header name, now WODE will not autoload the CFG after I reboot my Wii, since my WODE is configured to load the latest used ISO and it mistakes sdload internal name with WODE CFG.

I noticed that Super Mario Sunshine needs widescreen as "persp" or it will have some errors.

I know this is a little offtopic, but... does Swiss saves the settings? I don't think so... ?!

Swiss will only save the settings if you have a SDGecko inserted into one of the slots.
