When buying a Wii now...
When buying a Wii now...
So I'm out of the Wii Scene for over a year now and i know that i missed A LOT!
I want to get one again, for Linux stuff and that nice WiiMC and whatnot.
As you can see, i need to hack it and have the possibility to run homebrew on it.
What do i need to look out for? What firmwares can be hacked etc etc
??

Re: When buying a Wii now...
everything is fine to get, all is currently capable of homebrew
Only thing is, if you want bootmii installed and to boot up on boot, you need a Wii with a vulnerable Boot1 (2008 and earlier I think).

Re: When buying a Wii now...
A friend of mine got a HDD hooked up to the USB, running iso's and homebrew from it.
Hombrew Channel etc. Newest firmware, everything done by softmod if i remember correctly.
It's a US Wii, but i dont think that will matter.

Re: When buying a Wii now...
Yeah.. it's pretty easy. I'd strongly recommend not using a USB HDD without a Wode or some hardware implementation. The software stuff can be tedious if you don't have large amounts of time to sit there and update your IOS/System software carefully.
Re: When buying a Wii now...
firmware <= 4.2 allows using bannerbomb to softmod the Wii while the firmware 4.3 requires "exploit games"

Re: When buying a Wii now...
I haven't updated mine (running 4.2) in a year and haven't had any trouble with the USB HDD, even for the newer games like Donkey Kong Country that I bought earlier in the week.emu_kidid wrote:Yeah.. it's pretty easy. Yeah, but in my busy day it requires too much time rather than to just hit update.
