Gamecube to Classic Controller adapter?

I think the Gamecube Controller is the best Controller there is today. I'd love to use it as a Classic Controller replacement since most Wii game developers don't have much love for the gamecube controller anymore. Does anybody know if an adapter exists that connects a GC controller with a Wiimote?

Cheers

Marcan did create one (see here), but AFAIK he never released it to the public.

It should be pretty straightforward to do it, cause all you need to do is adding a litte micro controller to grab the serial data from the cube controller (spi protocol) and send some converted serial data (i2c protocol) to the wiimote. Then add a bit of code for autodetecting controller types and setting up the encryption.

i guess its not as simple as cutting the connector off a 5$ plugin wiimote classic controller and wiring the tip to GC controller??

I guess you need some microcontroller as a translator between the protocols.

Hm.. so there is no ready-to-buy adapter available?

PS: On an unrelated note, we need better emoticons :P

OT: you can use better ones with [ img ] tag... just make sure it is hosted safe (eg. imagebanana.com)

Look what I've found here: http://www.dealeurx.com/classic-ps2gc-g ... s669ogj1g3

It's the complete opposite from what I want, but at least something in the right direction :)

Looks like a GC to Classic Controller adapter really doesn't exist afterall, I searched the whole internet, but nothing. Now I decided to try to make one myself, especially after seeing this wonderful thing. I have a spare Classic Controller to sacrifice for the wiimote plug, but I don't have a clue about electronics. Usually everything breaks what I touch :P

Anyway, could someone provide me with a heads-up like a wiring diagram or something? Oh and I certainly wouldn't mind buying an adapter from someone who decided to make one himself.

I think it would not be enough to provide you a wiring diagram for an adapter, cause you need a micro controller and have to program some kind of firmware.
But it would be easier to modify your existing gamecube pad and cram in the classic controller board you have.

I already have done that kind of project, i built a Snesmote like this one.

I could provide you some more information or build a "classic cubepad" for you, if you send me the parts.

That's cool, but I would rather prefer not to modify my GC Controller, since it's original and in good shape and I also still want to use it for GC games as well.

Hm.. I think once the Wii U hits the market, third-parties are gonna make adapters that let you plug a normal GC controller to the Wiimote. I guess currently they don't see the point for this since you can use a GC controller natively on the Wii anyway.
