New Wii - what should be done.

So i bought a used Wii.
Basicly because of Skyward Sword, to complete my Zelda collection.

But as allways you cant get around homebrew
Any things i need to know?
Skyward Sword Updated the System to 4.3E, so i thought i would use letterbomb to install the homebrew channel

Should be fine, the hackmii installer is pretty clever/cautious.

If it's an older wii, you might even get to install Bootmii in boot2

Im reading alot right now.
As i can tell, installing Bootmii in boot2 is great because you can read and write a backup of the NAND?!

all the wiis say (C) 2006 on the sticker as far as I know.

You won't be able to install bootmii as boot2, but you can still backup/restore your nand from bootmii installed as IOS - however it's kind of a moot point as you won't be able to recover from most bricks since at that point nothing will be able to launch the IOS in the first place..

The Wii is not that vulnerable of bricks as you might think. Nowadays everyone seems to install Priiloader, but you don't need it if you don't do stupid things with your Wii, really. Also Priiloader does not provide an absolute brick proof Wii (not even bootmii/boot2 provides it). You can still unrecoverably mess up your Wii if you do something real stupid.
But Priiloader is barely used as brick prevention software alone, because it can do other cool stuff. Just search infos about Priiloader with Google and you'll figure it out.

To sum things up, the basic "Wii hack" consists of installing the Homebrew Channel, BootMii, a few custom IOS (cIOS) for playing Wii backups, a custom MIOS (cMIOS) for playing gamecube backups and Priiloader for basic brick prevention and some fancy functionality. All those things can hardy harm your Wii if you follow well written guides.

The difference is that Nintendo removed DVD playback functionality from their drives since I believe the D3-2 series. With those drives you can't play DVDs and backups anymore (you can still play games from SD and USB, though.)

One more quick question.

I was at my girlfriends place, downloading the internet channel. Because i had to leave and it took way to long and there is no option to cancel the download.
I canceld it the hard way :/ (turning the Wii off)

Now I'm back home and when i open up the Wii shop channel I see the little ring (loading) and then just a white empty screen.
Did i kill it?

So using Letterbomb to install the Homebrew-Channel was pretty easy.
Also d2x cIOS was not that hard to install with yawmm_de.
For some strange reason this also fixed the Wii Shop Channel.

WiiMC works like a charm, also SysCheck works as expected.
Only USB Loader GX wont take my USB-Stick, i'm gonna test another one after work.
