Zelda Majora's Mask Help

Post by AC_Orange » Thu Nov 08, 2012 11:37 am

Hey guys. First of all if you haven't played Majora's Mask yet this might contain spoilers so beware :)
I finally decided to give Majora's Mask another shot- never finished it before.
I got up to the damn Beaver's Race, spent over 2hrs and basically didn't get anywhere. Once I was a second short from winning, other times needed more than that.
I tend not to ask questions or look stuff up the first time I play the game but this is doing my head in and I will make an exception.
I even looked up a youtube video of a guy racing the beaver and even though he bumped into one of the rings once and a wall another time which slowed him down he managed to finish the race. I try and do the same without hitting anything and I can't make it.
This could mean 1) I'm retarded 2) my version of Majora's Mask is different from the one in the video and I'm still retarded 3) there's some sort of a power up that makes Zora Link swim faster?

I'm playing the NTSC Gamecube version of Majora's Mask

Any suggestions? and please bear in mind I haven't finished the game yet so no spoilers. Thank you :)

maybe there's some timing issue cause it's emulated perhaps, but I doubt it :)

You can totally finish the game without beating them, although you have to beat the orange one second for another item. It gets harder each time, but you basically need to try and get through all the rings as fast as possible. It's been about 12 years since I last played that part so my memory is rusty until I get up to it again in Wii64 ;)

Thanks for that. Yeah I really want that bottle :)
What I don't understand is the guy in the youtube video pulled it off with making mistakes and I do a 'perfect' run and still can't make it..
You are also playing the gamecube version right? Let me know if you have problems with it when you get there :)

I'm playing the N64 version via Wii64 (mostly for testing wii64 out at the moment). It's been so long I don't even remember if you get some sort of Zora upgrade to go faster, you might get one that uses magic perhaps, but I forget.

So after comparing my runs to the youtube I noticed the time goes faster in the version I was playing. So instead of using Devolution I tried using Swiss and guess what, finished all the races on the first go!!

Might need to let tueidj know, wouldn't want another poor soul to waste 3 hours or more of their lives :)

So you were running a n64 emulator in a gamecube emulator on wii? I guess there are some possibilities that cause this timing issue! :D

AC, can you attach or PM me your memcard.bin file and I'll forward it to tueidj - had a brief chat to him about it.

Yeah me too megalomaniac!

emu: I'm using a real memory card but can make a backup of it. Will gci do?

Also I forgot to say that I'm using wiiflow to run devolution and it's not the latest release. Not sure how old it is, will check when I get home

Okay I've emailed you the file :)

Updated devolution to r159, same thing occurs :/

Tell tueidj to load the second save, play the song of soaring: Up Left Down x2, warp to The water area (west)... Actually he can look it up on youtube
