Will a compact flash to IDE adapter work?

Post by RGB_Gamer » Wed May 22, 2013 11:45 pm

Will a compact flash to IDE adapter work and if so, would it need an external power supply?

You'd need to wire up 5V (there's a solder pad available for this on the IDE-EXI I believe) and GND, but no external power required.

And yes, it should work.

What about as adapter like this?

If this works and the DMA thing gets sorted out nicely, the IDE-EXI will obsolete the SD Gecko... and this adapter will be the best thing ever.

thats a nice find...i was looking for this a while back but none were available...
about time they showed up on the market...

since the description states it also works as a bootable device, then its not dependent on using OS drivers like some other adapters...
so it "should" work...

Those things have been around for ages, they're basically just a SD->CF converter (with an IDE header added). I got one in 2009 but it's extremely unreliable for SDHC.

ah, that seems to be the only model with a female IDE connector... it would be a shame if it had issues.

I actually have no idea what's inside mine, it's a different design with a sealed block... basically something like this mounted on the board with a couple of LEDs and the IDE and floppy power headers. It looks like it could actually support two CF cards, since on the back there's another row of pads connected to the IDE pins. It also works without the external power being connected at all.

I know this is an old topic but I was able to get the following working:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-New-SD-To-3 ... SwIBBUbVe8

I have the IDE-EXI in slot B

Then its connected with the IDE ribbon to the SD to IDE PCB. I had an old SATA to IDE usb converter with power supply so that is the power supply I used.

Something like this would do for the power supply:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SATA-PATA-IDE-t ... Sw6BtVVQmz

I'm using a 4gb SD card for testing formatted FAT32 with 32 clusters.

I used swiss 0.4 compressed installed onto qoob pro chip. Swiss sees the SD card without any problems.

Hope this helps somebody.

I think it's a great idea, because it is way more complicated and expensive than SD Gecko.

After research I realized what everyone is summarizing that the same can be done cheaper with just an SD Gecko. As an aside, I'm glad to see all of you are into BBC....I mean who isn't right?
