Mario Tennis (JPN) & region mode

Anyone know if Mario Tennis Japan version supports consoles set to other languages?
I'm using an original import. No luck on either Freeloader, Action Replay, a chipped US GC, or softmod US Wii.

Shows the Wario and Waluigi startup logos (without sound or animation) than gives an error message in Japanese.

That is unusual, I thought that only PAL Consoles had problems with certain JAP games because the PAL Bios is missing the Japanese font, or something. So I'm unable to play import F-Zero GX on my PAL GC. You don't happen to have a screenshot of the message in Japanese?

The game's progressive scan option appears too. Forgot about that.

US GC needs a region switch for the Japanese bios (opposite for JP GC).
Wii I haven't tried much. Think it takes a more extensive softmod than mine.

On GC anyway, things like freeloader and modchips load imports without changing the language.

JP F-Zero GX defaults to an incomplete translation on US GC. It'll play partially English, various graphics missing.
Action Replay code can turn the game back Japanese.

translate.google.com lets you draw characters if you want to translate it

Is the disc scratched? The only time I would get that message is when using backups or my original PSO disc which was used heavily

It would be worthwhile to try and dump the game and see if cleanrip gives you an error as well

Its bottom outside edge has one small dent.

Dumping the game on wii doesn't look difficult. If nothing else getting an iso is nice, can't try a backup without it.
