Announcing Swiss - The "Swiss Army Knife" of GC software

Post by emu_kidid » Thu Jan 20, 2011 2:14 am

I'm proud to finally announce the software that I've been developing on and off the past few months or so. I've labelled it "Swiss" because it'll hopefully (not initially) boast more features than any other homebrew Gamecube utility out there. It is very losely based on the SD-Boot source but about 90% was re-written :)

It will be 100% open sourced and available online (probably googlecode) so you can see changes as I make them and I'll be releasing binary versions with every new feature/improvement.

Current Features:
- Load DOL from SD/SDHC/DVD-R/HDD
- Load GCM/ISO from Original Disc/SD/SDHC/DVD-R/HDD
- Multi-Game DVD-R support (Cobra/GCOS)
- Multi-Disc support Original Disc/SD/SDHC/DVD-R/HDD
- Disc Ripping to SD/SDHC/HDD
- Region free / Video forcing (480p)
- Full cheat engine for all games (update it via SD/SDHC/HDD)
*HDD features require a IDE-EXI or homemade adapter
**SD features require a SDGecko or homemade adapter

Definite future features (in order of priority):
- Memory Card Management
- USBGecko/SE support
- IPL/SRAM/DVD-ROM/RAM dumping
- IPL Configuration

A beta version will be available in the next two weeks :)

Nice to see the great advance of this piece of homebrew. Great job emu_kidid :D

I have some questions:

1. "it will be 100% open sourced.....". You mean, the source code available for everyone?
2. "Load GCM/ISO from Original Disc/SD/SDHC/DVD-R/HDD". DVD-R means from burned disk? It will act like GCOS?

Yep! I forgot to mention Multi-Game / Multi-Disc - I've updated the first post now.

You are the man emu! Great work :)

Does this render our sundriver project useless now?

No - the Sundriver doesn't require a modchip and I find more interesting ;)

browse the forums a bit more. there a whole area dedicated to the IDE-EXI.
there'll be a huge announcement and 2 shops (germany/australia) where you can order them from.

No chunk ripping option for SD? I guess that isn't so much of an issue anymore anyway with the release of IDE2EXI.

I dig the interface icons. Very MAC OSXish.

Will I be able to boot from DVD on a Wii in GC mode? GCOS always rebooted my system or would not run when I tried to swap discs.

In other news...this is excellent work.

I will def be shooting a donation your way.

@Johnny_Bigtime: Swiss is a gc homebrew. Any gc homebrew is launched in GC mode.

It will most likely only play GC retail discs on a softmodded wii if that's what you are asking. On a gamecube it can change the dvd drive's firmware to read DVD-Rs, which is something that impossible on a wii. If you look at NeoGamma(or WiiGator's GC backup loader), you see that GC DVD-Rs are possible on a wii, but that would require its own (a bit complicated) code. I think swiss will concentrate on being run on an actual gamecube, everything that works on a wii too is just bonus, so it will have lowest priority if it's done at all.

But i do hope that basic wii support will be done eventually, like running retail GC games with cheats, or the Wind Waker fix. If it's just the gamecube code without tweaks for the wii, i expect retail audio streaming discs to fail, and WW will freeze when you open the minimap(DVD/SD/HDD independent).

But first things first: Let the master do his work and then we can see what we get

Great tool, I'm really looking forward to test it out :)

But I have a question...
The announcement mentions loading backups from SDHC would be possible. But according to my informations SD Gecko doesn't support SDHC >= 4GB, so how would this work?

Or am I wrong?

Sorry if my question is stupid and thanks for anyone answering!

Thanks for all your GC stuff emu_kidid, I'm glad that my favorite console is far from dead!
Looking forward to the release. :)

I'm not complaining, just talking. Also since it will be open source, i hope it will help me to improve NeoGamma's GC loading.

Apparently all memory card <-> sd card adapters "support" sdhc, meaning, all connections are there in the hardware and sdhc is "only" a matter of the used software. Swiss should be able to load games from sdhc cards put in SD Geckos, but don't expect all sdhc cards to work. If you plan to buy one for this, wait for compatibilty lists.
