Dolphin needs a VPN for the bba to work properly.

I'm using dolphin 4.0-1239-x64, and I have the VPN working (as far as I know). In order to initiate god mode it makes you connect to the internet, which took me several tries to do, so I'm fairly confident it was set up right in the end. Granted I know nothing about networking or Japanese, but I followed the instructions from the dolphin wiki and from puutan's site, so I think I did everything right.

If anyone wants to tinker, I have uploaded my save file to this site which will start you with one scenario completed and the online mode switched to IP connect:

http://www.mediafire.com/download/8fhi8 ... dA.JAP.raw

One of the mascots (the blue guy) is in the other world, and the god mascot has already started a server, so neither will show up on the shelf. To resume the god server, pick option 1 then 3 then 2. To join a server switch into a mascot (the cube guy), then pick option 1 then 2 then 1.

It appears somebody has managed to emulate the BBA for wii's via homebrew. http://gbatemp.net/threads/devolution-p ... se.330554/ Theres a link at the bottom of the first post for how to set up the BBA emulation. This is good for people like me who don't have access to modding their 'Cubes, and this'll also hopefully let me get a god server set up so I can get started on taking some pictures of the game world for maps and whatnot.

seems I'll have to wait until I can order Homeland to get the online working, which I intended to do anyways to have a legit copy of this amazing game.

It's modem emulation only, not BBA.
You might want to wait for the next release of Devolution, which will force the use of the japanese system font (instead of the system default) for japanese games. However this fix will also make japanese games insist on the memory card being formatted as SJIS, so you'll probably want to use a dedicated memory card (either real or emulated).

Ah, thanks for that info. Because Homeland doesn't like to work with No More Memory, I had to use my physical memory card, and when my savedata got corrupted once, it reformatted my card for me (that's what I get for mashing A and not reading) so my memory card is already formatted properly for that IIRC. Since Homeland and PSO are the only two games I know of that don't work with NMM, I've no problem with just keeping the memory card in that format.

No More Memory is what dios mios uses, it has very low compatibility.

I don't like to get into all the technical aspects of it all, I just use what works and does right for me. Soon as I get the money I just need to order Homeland. I'm just thankful I can still play the ISO on my wii.

So, I've been playing Homeland, gotten every mascot except God, Unicorn, Coccotto, and Paradaika. And only because those require the Golem and Paradaika scenarios, which I don't feel like doing atm. While playing I realized that the NPCs pretty much talk exactly like players. They open the keyboard, and then input the letters, just at a fast rate. And since the game has an English keyboard, I was thinking, we don't have to actually translate the game into an entirely new typeset, we just need to change the letters. I understand that a whole item description isn't going to be able to be properly translated, but for something like the Drum Shield, we could CHANGE it to simply say "Has a chance to make attacker sleep." It's simple, too the point, and would fit within the writing already there. If anyone could send me a quick PM with links to tools explaining how you opened the game to view, I don't mind looking at the files and taking a crack at it myself, since I can read enough Japanese to get myself around the game, and to find what I'm looking for in the iso. It looks like y'all are trying to super-mod the game, when all I think it'd take is some simple tweaking, albeit on a major scale. So if anyone can point me in the right direction for editing the game files, I'd be grateful. Seems like once we find what we're after, it gets easier.

EDIT:I actually took time to read back through previous posts, and the main issue is actually getting to what needs to be done, take it out, and be able to put it back in properly. I have no knowledge at all on this sort of thing, but if anyone feels like PMing me a short guide on the basics, I can do anything really, I'd just need some time to learn it. I don't mind starting from scratch to help get this thing up and running.

I've extracted all the Strings from all.bin, the .rel files and boot.dol.

you can have a look at them here:

Edit:
The code used to extract the strings and patch the data files are available here:

Hello guys,

Sorry about the major necro but about removing the Japanese characters from the rest of the "garage" I might have a solution. Because each character is assigned a Unicode value (or some other system similar to what you can do in html) and foreign characters are usually have higher values than the Latin Characters, couldn't we run a macro that removes the non-Japanese characters (lower valued)? Sorry if I totally missed boat on this one :?

Sorry again about reviving such an old thread.

EDIT: Oh yeah regarding the putting the translated text back into the files we could possibly have the macro leave markers when ever it removes non Japanese text say "[1]","[2]", etc. Perhaps we could, instead of removing the characters, replace them with a certain symbol say "*".

PS. Hi by the way, I'm new here.

I've had thoughts about importing this game off eBay for collector's sake, it looks very interesting by the looks of its trailer. Might grab an iso file and check it out. This would be awesome if you got it working...I'm sure since PSO has private servers, there's bound to be a way to get this one working. :P

If I remember correctly, you can host a server for Homeland by just opening one from within the game.

This project should have been posted on the http://www.romhacking.net message boards.

Basically the project was stuck because nobody had the knowledge to replace text.
On those forums there are plenty of people with programming skills that could have helped

Altough usually on those forum you want ask for help when you already have found the way to extract/replace the text and you just need a translator. Which is the opposite of this project but still it wouldn't have hurt..

Since this game is very special, being a good gamecube game that will be playable online forever, maybe it would have inspired somebody there with programming skills to work on it.

Of course it's not too late, I mean it would be better if liquitt or somebody else from the project could post there so they could explain better the difficulties they had and what they were able to achieve. Are you still around guys ?

Otherwise sure, i'll post a quick ad for this project on romhacking.net, just in case it would arouse the curiosity of a skilled hacker for this challenging project.
After all it's not everyday that you can translate a gamecube game which will be playable online forever so maybe someone will be motivated for posterity's sake lol.

From what I can read page 7 the person called jaytheham was saying that the text insertion was actually not really hard ? So if it's true that would be an easy project for an experienced hacker. Just need to find one interested by such an "obscure game".

hi and thank you for your interest! yes i'm still here, although not really active anymore.
still, the project never really started. there were attempts to extract text (that actually worked 50%) and insertion of the translated text was never tested iirc.
so this is still at the beginning. you could advertise on whatever forum you want to actually get things going but we need one forum to be the base.
go ahead, post it and let us know if there's people interested at all - i doubt that it's a big thing for a skilled hacker. after somebody extracted the text in a clean form we could hire an army of translators ;)

It's not whatever forum it's the mecca for this kind of project lol

Well I just done what should have been done in 2011 but never too late, they actually have a system to reference Help request for projects, so I just wrote one, the link to this thread will be visible, need to wait 24 to 48 hours for it to be posted.

Here is the where you can see the requests. http://www.romhacking.net/helpads/

Once it's up I'll also ask if I can make a some thread about it on their forum for more visibility, we'll see.

Edit : Oh it's actually already up. I might edit it later to format the add better.

This ad will be buried eventually so if you are really motivated the next step would be that you liquitt open a thread in the personal project section for more visibility : http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.p ... ,11.0.html , and bump it occasionally.
Altough you wouldn't have much stuff to say until we find someone but maybe people would ask you questions about the project.

This gc-forever thread would still remain the project HQ of course.

Anyways do it or don't but after that we would have done the best we could to revive it, not much more can be done.

Hopefully in the worst case this project will be finished before 2025 lol. By then I hope I will have learned programming and how to do these text hacks haha...

Or at least japanese.

Hey. I ran across this GameCube iso file extraction/insertion utility on romhacking.net, and I thought I would bring it to your attention in case it helps with some of the hurdles there have been in making any progress on this project:

http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/1167/

Also just want to say that I am still holding out hope that this project happens at some point.
