I am not sure if sound is on by default. What you need to do for sound is enable "enhanced DVI" in the OSD. ;)

It is very unlikely that when a programming file is bad you still get something that partially works.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, it can't be the programming.

So then, do you have a schematic for the controller connection to the chip?

Also, I found the site I spoke about earlier

The site you are linking focuses on a smaller FPGA. Therefore, it does not have the OSD. I am pretty sure you cannot flash your FPGA with the bit file from there.

Take a look at this post to see where you need to connect the controller via on your Shuriken board: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=3092#p33126

Here is a picture of where you can find the via for the controller signal on your GC board: https://github.com/ikorb/gcvideo/blob/m ... roller.jpg

It is pretty small, so be careful. The way I soldered it, was by sticking a small piece of kynar wire into the via and then add solder to connect them.

That would explain why I'm getting an error while trying to program his bit file.

I'll work on what you posted above a little later today and get back to you guys to give you an update.

Thank you,

This is the correct one.
It works but there's no OSD or Sound.
Did you connect the additional wire from the via marked on this picture to the Shuriken video board? It should be connected to the smaller pin header besides the FPGA on the Shuriken board, third pin from the Gamecube end. Without this wire you won't be able to enter the OSD, because the FPGA can't read the controller inputs and thus the OSD won't work.

It's the pad with the blue wire in this picture:

You don't get any sound because by default GCVideo outputs a pure DVI signal to stay compatible with previous versions.
We figured it was because it's the shrunken file for the older prom, so we got instead d2xh 2.1 (or something like that) bit file
That won't work, the file is built for the Pluto board which uses different pins.
So we searched online and found gcdev 0.5 zip file that just got released two weeks ago
I have no idea what that might be.

Good day Unseen,

Thank you for lending a hand, I'm Def going to be trying that wire when I get a chance, I know for a fact we didn't connect it and from what meneerbeer and yourself are telling me, it seems that's the last piece if the puzzle.

Will keep you guys posted on the outcome.

Does anyone know why the Shuriken video topic was locked. Just noticed today

You should be able just to flash the mcs file and your done.

I'd like to take a shot at building one of these for myself, but it seems I'm having a hard time finding a complete BOM (Bill of Materials?). I'm in the US, so I tried looking up some of the parts over at DigiKey and it seems like I'm just walking around in the dark here. For instance, trying to find the "xc3s200a" under the Xilinx brand, well, it just doesn't seem to be there...

I'm not sure how that could not result in any results - searching for that string on digikey.com currently gives me 24 results in the IC->FPGA category. The one you want is this one. As for the rest of the BOM, I think it was online somewhere?

Are you referring to the gcvideo_lite_v9 BOM?
https://github.com/ikorb/gcvideo/tree/m ... eo_lite_09?

Or maybe this little note for the shuriken_video_v1?
https://oshpark.com/profiles/andre104623

Thanks for the DigiKey PN!

Since you were looking for a Xilinx chip, I meant the Shuriken Video BOM - I tend to know where the data for my own projects is. =)

I'll keep looking, thanks for your time.

Ok, I'm bumping the rough BOM & notes against the schematic listed on happy_bunny's*, but I need a little help with a couple components:

1.) C5 & C6 - no values given, same as C1-C4 (100nF)?
2.) C8 - I can't find a capacitor that meets the requirements for Tantulum, 0805 and 1uF. Since this is for filtering noise, will a slightly bigger one work? (DigiKey PN 493-2329-1-ND)

I'll be sharing the shopping list here once I get those items identified.

Lastly, can I get a recommendation for a programmer? I'm doing this for fun, and this will likely be the only project I ever use it for, so I'm definitely not looking for high-end.

*Edited embarrassing mistake

Take a look in the normal Shuriken video thread for some suggestions. I think most people are using an old PC with a parallel port to directly program the SPI flash.

A fake Xilinx TJAG programmer is already around 30$. Most likely you can also use a 5$ Altera clone, but I have not heard of anyone doing that yet.

^Congrats!

So here's a DigiKey BOM for all of the components I could gather, minus the PCB:

U1 122-1594-ND(Supports OSD)
U2 557-1583-5-ND
U3 AP1117E50GDICT-ND
U4 1028-1069-1-ND (1.5A rating to support SPDIF)
CONN2 WM19088CT-ND
C1 thru 6 399-1170-1-ND (not sure if suitable for C5 & C6)
C7 478-3272-1-ND
C8 493-2329-1-ND
R1 311-100CRCT-ND
R2 311-330CRCT-ND
R3 & R4 311-4.70KCRCT-ND
R5 & R6 311-10.0KCRCT-ND
R7 311-180CRCT-ND

After putting this together, I know how much of a PITA it'd be to double check everything, but could someone at least scrub the ones I selected for C5, C6 and C8?

About to place my order now, thanks for the previous help.

Just to let everyone know i have abandon the shuriken v2 for the v3 version. I was having issues with the v2 pcb the silkscreen was off causing the components to be grounded so im going to give the v3 a go

Did someone confirm C5,C6 and C8 because I'll probably pass an order with your list.

Thanks

Edit: Is there someone from Canada, I'm from Montreal I'll order a few boards so we could split them if anyone interested!

* Just order 3 board on OSH of the V3, and I used the BOM list with farnell part number that is made for the V3.

Hello,

I am going to order in the parts to make the V3 board. I just wanted to see if anyone wanted a board before I place the order. I am in Tampa, FL if you want to see what shipping is, let me know if anyone is interested.

Thanks

I'm quite new to this, bought 3 OSH Park v2 PCBs and looking for all the components required to get this built.

Bought a few componets off uk.farnell.com as follows;
1) Flash Memory, NOR, 4 Mbit, 512K x 8bit, 75 MHz, SPI, NSOIC, 8 Pins | Part No M25P40-VMN6PB
2) Fixed LDO Voltage Regulator, 2.3V to 6V, 250mV Dropout, 1.2Vout, 1Aout, SOT-223-3 | Part No MCP1826S-1202E/DB
3) Fixed LDO Voltage Regulator, 6.4V to 18V, 1.2V Dropout, 5Vout, 1Aout, SOT-223-3 | Part No AP1117E50G-13
4) HDMI Connector, 19 Contacts, Jack, Surface Mount, Gold Plated Contacts, Metal Body | Part No 47151-1001
5) FPGA, SPARTAN-3A, 200K, 100VQFP | Part No XC3S200A-4VQG100C

Apart from resistors what else am i missing? Had a look at the list from 2xWhiskey but just want to check before i start buying parts.

I'm a complete noob to this just looking for some guidance. Any pictures of your assembled boards would be appreciated.

Sorry if this has been covered else where but everyone here seem to know what they're talking about and to me its all going over my head.

Thanks.
