Tweak the potentiometer, but first try to clean the laser lens with some 100% alcohol/isopropyl and a q-tip.

I just tweaked the pot, serveral times actually until it wasn't able to read any normal discs. The backups STILL didn't work. I even cleaned the lazer and still, same results as before! Does it just not work for me?

Remind me what your full setup is and how you are loading Swiss, although if you're able to see the discs in Swiss it makes it sound like the laser can read the media but then gives up. When the "Error has occurred" screens come up, has the disc stopped spinning at this point? If so, was it violently clicking around just before doing so?

"Up until it wasn't able to read any normal discs" makes it sound like you went up instead of down? Set the ohms fairly low like <100 and see how you go. If you've already done so, then it sounds like the laser is really on its way out.

Ok, so I load swiss through the home bros exploit. I load the game and it doesn't work.

It's not possible to adjust the pot without a multimeter. Maybe your laser is screwed now.

I'd stop playing games on your cube until you've read your pot value. You might be killing your laser now.

@emu_kidid I got a multimeter today and here is what happened. I set it the pot to 200 and the things mentioned above still happened. I set it to 100 like you said but my gamecube attempts to load the disc and then the bios tells me that I have no disc incerted.

Set it to 0 ohm and ride it out until the laser dies (or get a replacement, try a different burner, or different media).

You can just take a drive from another used game cube. You could instead replace only the laser, they cost less than 10 USD.
