Is there an up to date compatibility list for the IDE-EXI? I have one, but not using it. Is it mainly used for homebrew?

compatibility for ide-exi should be the same as SD Gecko for the time being (I hope to improve it one day).

I guess my real question is why IDE-EXI vs SD Gecko? Do most people that have IDE-EXI use it for homebrew?

Cheaper/larger storage if you have old HDD's laying around or via a SATA to IDE adapter as well. It supports up to 2TB of data.

The IDE-EXI has the possibility for DMA too once I start to utilise it in Swiss.

Excellent, can't wait to get my hands on one. I have a "slim" Gamecube project that I'd like to get back to and having an internal HDD would be a nice addition ;)

What is the big appeal of these, rather than an SD-MEMORY card adapter?

The appeal, as already stated earlier in the thread, is to use either an old IDE HDD or a SATA HDD (via SATA-IDE adapter) as storage on your NGC. Thus enabling upto 2TB of storage for your game backups, hombrew etc

Is retail game compatibility with this any better nowadays vs discs?

Not much difference compared to SD gecko, and it's slower.
