GCOS, short for Gamecube Operating System was a application, some also called it a BIOS, for the Nintendo Gamecube. It provided full features that a modchip would provide, without the need for one, yet it could also be flashed to run on one if you so desired. It had many different versions, but the ones listed here are the important ones. In each version you will find detailed capabilities and change logs.
All the GCOS releases starting from 1.0 up to 1.x:

For me this was the better bios for GameCube ( after the qoob bios) a shame is development is suspended. Sometimes i think if the development would continue this would been the best GameCube bios so far.
Would been great this list of features.
-480p in all games (at least same or more as qoob)
-qoob sx support (would been the only bios able to flash instead of qoob bios in sx version)
-see the clock hour at any time (would been pretty awesome)
-IGR (like qoob do it)
-Bump up the speed on the disc dumper (would be very quickly!!!)
Really a shame that only is a dream in my mind now

Megacubo, I'm not sure if you realize, but Swiss aims to achieve all of the above you've mentioned (except QoobSX)
