Removing MMX Collection blur filter?

Post by KevinPike » Thu Mar 14, 2019 10:35 pm

Has anyone had any success at removing the blur filter (I think it's using deflicker. which is stupid because it's 240p, there's no flicker) on the Mega Man X Collection? This collection supports 240p normally, but it looks blurry. Nothing in Swiss has fixed it, and there's no custom dol. Is it too baked into the code to be fixed, or can it be removed?

It's not deflickering (which is a vertical low-pass filter), it's scaling from 256 to 640 pixels using a FIR filter.

I've looked into this, but the offending code is in relocatable objects, so it's a pain.

Oh, I see. That kind of sucks, but oh well.
I also noticed Zelda 1 and 2 look blurry in 240p as well, probably for a similar reason, but at least it supports 480p (and looks really sharp).

Yeah, Nintendo's NES emulator is doing the same thing, and it's not sharp by any means in 480p.

My memory proves me wrong; it's not great (especially the colors), though it's still sharper than the X Collection through the Framemeister.
