Is my issue with choppy loading related my SD card?

Post by ebj777 » Tue Aug 27, 2019 12:06 am

So I had a plan to load every NTSC ISO on 1 SD card hooked up to my Gamecube.

I had a brand new 400GB Sandisk SD card for this and realized it wasn't enough, I got close but couldn't fit all the titles. I played around with it and was able to load the menu pretty quick, play a game, and have the FMVs load.

I bought a Patriot 512GB EP SD Card to fit the entire collection, it seemed to be a good brand on Amazon and saved me 20 bucks. I loaded the entire set here with 8 GB to spare, but I noticed when I load the SD card in Swiss there is a bit of a delay before it populates the menu, and while I would expect this, when I had the 400GB Sandisk filled to the brim with only 700mb left, it loaded pretty quick. I only tested one game so far, but it crashed while loading the FMV intro. Now I'm not sure if this is an issue with the SD card, the 512 capacity, or Swiss working fine with a 400GB card, but 512GB causing it to bug out? Should it be successful? I kind of regret going with another brand now because the 400GB Sandisk didn't give me any issues.

I've had issues with 512GB Patriot / Lexar in my GameCube, need to investigate it more but something is up with those that it hates in-game (and seems to take longer to read in the file menu as well).

Good to know its not me, I played around a little and have am having some weird issues. I tried Megaman File Transmission, crashes on the intro video, tried 007 Nightfire, gives me an error after the intro videos saying to restart the game, Everything or Nothing worked fine.

Issues is I haven't been playing many games before this so I can't say for sure if its Swiss GC or the SD card (The files are clean redump ISOs converted with NKitConvert), only game I've been putting many hours into is Fire Emblem, I'll give that a try next but sounds like I should probably return this card and pay the premium for the Sandisk 512.

Tried a few things, reformatted the card clean, used exFAT instead of FAT32, and loaded only about 10 games. I tried 007 Everything or Nothing and it worked fine. Then loaded 1080 Avalanche and got "An Error Has Occured". Never gotten that message before loading any games so the Patriot must be the issue. 1080 Avalache is reported to work fine on the wiki.

If you're using the alternate read patches, they don't presently support streaming audio, as used by 1080° Avalanche.

Thanks, probably related. I got the message playing one of the 007 games too so I think there is more trouble. Will find another use for this 512 and try a Samsung or Sandisk 512 SD, I'll try to report back if I find more success.

Did you get to play? Everything or Nothing uses multiple DOLs that alternate during missions. If there were no problems between driving and walking missions, that's good news.

Just an update on this, it was the SD card, I switched to a Sandisk 512 and while theres some minor stuttering when going into folders, there is no graphics display corruption and games boot as they did on my other SD. Avoid Patriot for now when it comes to the larger capacities.
