replace thermal paste

Post by Hucklebuck » Tue Feb 04, 2020 3:38 am

I took apart my GC to install GC Loader and accidentally removed the heatsink. So now I want to replace the thermal paste and or pad. What thickness is the thermal pad? Should I use paste with it? I didn't remove the material but it did get disturbed.

I don't understand how we have ODE's, HDMI output, and alternate software for the Gameboy Player, etc. And nobody seams to know the thickness of the thermal pads used on the Gamecube.

You may be able to measure the remains of yours.

I have messed with some on one of my cubes, i just gathered the remains and put everything back in place.

Thermal pads are probably a little over 1mm thick in the cube.

what do you mean - 'it got disturbed' ?

these thermal pads are probably the most durable ones to date. going through my boxes of old gamecube stuff i found a mainboard from around 15 years ago where i wrapped the heatsink + pads loosely in some piece of scrap foil and what can i say? i'd still use that one.
please search before you ask - a lot has been discussed already!
