GBIsr Zoom editing CLI issue

Post by mr4eyes86 » Sat Apr 25, 2020 11:06 pm

I understand that it's not ideal to zoom using gbisr but I edited my .cli as such...(I just took the example .cli and removed the example name and added the zoom line.)

--delay-video=2
--zoom=2.25
--matrix=identity
--contrast=.78125
--vfilter=.5:.25:.25
--sound=analog=.000148021979839541018009185791015625:.00029604395967908203601837158203125:.000148021979839541018009185791015625:-
1.965293407440185546875:.965885460376739501953125
--format=ntsc,scaled-size=666:448,size=608:448
--scan-mode=interlace
--enhance
--

Zoom at 2.25 nearly fills in my NTSC CRT perfectly using only GBA games. However, I noticed when gbisr loads now, it doesn't appear to be 240p anymore and for whatever reason it's displaying as 480i. There's a noticeable drop in sharpness and clarity. Even the standard GBI, running at 240p, looks sharper than gbisr at the same amount of zoom. I'm clearly doing something wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks

Also my setup it as follows...
Pal Gamecube, retrogamingcables rgb scart cable to RetroTink RGB2COMP component converter. Using action replay disc with sd media launcher card to access swiss and load GBIsr. Playing on NTSC CRT

Thank you for the response. If I'm understanding correctly, this is what I came up with...

--delay-video=N
--zoom=2.25
--matrix=gbi
--contrast=1.0
--vfilter=1.0:1.0:1.0
--sound=analog=<a0:a1:a2:b1:b2>
--format=ntsc,scaled-size=720:243,size=640:480
--scan-mode=progressive
--no-enhance

If I removed any of the lines, I'm assuming it just reverts to the default settings of the .DOL? If that's the case, can I just remove all the lines that don't have to do with the zoom?

So my .cli would be just this?

--zoom=2.25

Thanks again!

--sound=analog=<a0:a1:a2:b1:b2>

--scan-mode=interlace
--no-enhance

Using these settings I was able to get it displaying, but the image is still not 240p :( I had to go back to the example vfilter settings because the default ones distorted all the colors. If I put progressive, I get no image...just static so I had to put interlace again. I'm so confused.

Zooming at 2,25 in 240p won't give you a nice result, try to keep in x2@240p, or try x3@480i with the CRT forced 16:9 mode.

Why do you have the value 243 lines in the "scaled-size" args?

Well, I went ahead and used gbi.dol standard and when I used the zoom option at 2.25 (running at 240p) it said on the top of the screen that the resolution was 720x243. So I went ahead and plugged that in. It "sort-of" worked meaning it was the same size window on my CRT as when I used standard gbi.dol at 2.25 zoom. TBH I have no idea what I'm doing and just trying to get clarity. I would just use standard gbi.dol at 2.25 zoom, 240p but the screen jutter is an eye-sore. Your suggestion of x3@480i 16:9 mode, is that something I would have to make a custom .cli for or something I can select from the swiss menu? Can I use those settings with gbisr.dol? Running at 480i, would I lose a lot of the sharpness I would otherwise have at 240p? Thanks for your help!

You have to work with the .dcp, instead of the .cli, to get a menu at launch, when you'll be OK, report that settings in the .cli you'll use then.
You'll only be able to achieve this "sharpness" by using integer zoom factor, but using "shrinked" video signal to 16:9, you'll get higher line density, so thinner scanline gaps.
