Wii stuffed into a Gamecube case conjecture
Wii stuffed into a Gamecube case conjecture
I see most of you guys making physical contributions and for now mine shall be conjecture. First I dont know the internals of the Wii and wonder; Is it possible to take apart a Wii and stuff the whole thing into a Gamecube? Since a Wii is basically an overclocked Gamecube from what I heard, how awesome it could be to have a more powerful gc. Some particular games with slowdown could work better or ideally.
Personally, Id completely do away with the Wii motes and entirely be on gc controllers and if I could set up the home menu software to never require or ask for another wiimote again. I dont like the wii very much; my nostalgia was laid to rest with the nintendo revolution.
Point is, I want to know if its possible or not, would it fit? Could you rewrite the Wii hardware to literally run gamecube software only and forget its wii days? and have the beefiest gamecube ever? Is this the envisioning of the nintendo revolution? If this could be achieved, the name should stand once again.

Re: Wii stuffed into a Gamecube case conjecture
I always thought it was silly that the Wii requires a wiimote with batteries/sensor bar just to launch a GameCube game. Not going to take any of my consoles apart though, so I wish you luck.

Re: Wii stuffed into a Gamecube case conjecture
Welp, Unless theres a part of the motherboard that can be sawed off, it wont fit. ALthough, I did see some guy actually saw apart a wii motherboard for some reason and it functioned. If it were, the thing to do would simply fold the sawed motherboard and solder with wires. This would take a dedicated person.Lumina333 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 9:33 pmI always thought it was silly that the Wii requires a wiimote with batteries/sensor bar just to launch a GameCube game. Ah yes, theres many people apparently who trim the motherboard, look up wii trimming its everywhere. I spotted a pocket sized wii out there just now. It could be done from the looks of it... Woah! hey this guy has the same idea! I havent read it yet but heres this https://www.reddit.com/r/Gamecube/comme ... _gamecube/
Re: Wii stuffed into a Gamecube case conjecture
One thing people might find hilarious that doesn't require destroying stuff is making a bigger-than-normal GameCube shell that would fit the Wii mobo. It'd give you a chance to make it an actual cube, not just an almost cube.
Re: Wii stuffed into a Gamecube case conjecture
While you can trim the MB, you can also patch the FW so you won't need the Wiimote to startup the thing, but it's quite useless as you'll end up loosing digital AV out, GBPlayer connectivity.
To beef up the GC, just wait for some people are thinking about adding 16 or 32MB to the system.
It may improve homebrew ability, but just forget getting smoother games that were lagging, unless someone would make a remake of them (sometimes games are just plain bloated by bad, non-optimized code).

Re: Wii stuffed into a Gamecube case conjecture
hah, that image stayed in my head for a minute. Im not gona do that... ok all you need is a 3d printer I just realized oh that more possible than I gave a chance for. Then you could fit more things inside the console to your hearts content
Re: Wii stuffed into a Gamecube case conjecture
Ah no use in removing digital AV that one of the most important things, why the heck does no wii mote equal no digital AV. Idk it probably doesnt matter anyways like I would know anybetter it just bothers me.Papy.G wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 11:06 amWhile you can trim the MB, you can also patch the FW so you won't need the Wiimote to startup the thing, but it's quite useless as you'll end up loosing digital AV out, GBPlayer connectivity.

sweet. Youre talking about RAM right?
Hey Im sure someones been down this road where they hacked the wii to stop lowering its specs to fit GC speeds to match where it used full wii power even if it didnt make games instantly better, there may be some improvement. Im thinking about spyro enter the dragon, I want better fps in that. And Ssx tricky, sometimes theres a slowdown in that game I never noticed until pc gaming and more powerful stuff showed up. Idk maybe that would feel weird in 60fps all the time. Problem is I cant do anything about making such a patch to improve games, better chances with streamlined console improvement everyone knows and gets onboard.
Re: Wii stuffed into a Gamecube case conjecture
I believe so - the GameCube doesn't have an internal hard drive and vast memory cards have been available for years.Nuguns wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 5:00 pmsweet. Re: Wii stuffed into a Gamecube case conjecture
I always thought this kind of modification was unnecessary. Until I wanted to play the last two GBA Yu-Gi-Oh! games on the GC recently.
It's always a matter of time...
