PAL game on NTSC-J GC doesn't work properly
PAL game on NTSC-J GC doesn't work properly
PAL MGS the twins snakes can't work properly on NTSC-J Gamecube. I've tried several solves but eventually no one works (Best result was with 480i that I chose in Swiss, but FMV video works terrible). On the other is 576p picture which just black & white. Can I force it to work on 50 hz properly? My TV has an ability to work both in PAL and NTSC, so It is not the problem in that. I would be very grateful if anyone can help me.
Re: PAL game on NTSC-J GC doesn't work properly
For the few games that only works in 50Hz and are not available in NTSC version, the way to get it sorted depends on what console and what kind of display you have handy.
There is no NTSC 50 "standard", so you have first to forget about using composite (or RF) connexion.
On the console side (NTSC, unmodded):
DOL-101 : S-VIDEO (to be confirmed)
DOL-001 : S-VIDEO, RGB, Component, or HDMI
RVL-001 : S-VIDEO or Component
Some cables are rare or expensive, tell us more about your gear and expectations (playing on a CRT or flat panel...) so we can help you much better.

Re: PAL game on NTSC-J GC doesn't work properly
My gear:
Gamecube: DOL-001
TV: Sony PWM 9041qm
I have only composite cable to my Gamecube. I just want to play my PAL games without any issues, so I'am ready to hear your advices what to do.

Re: PAL game on NTSC-J GC doesn't work properly
I just checked, but it seems MGS TTS natively supports PAL 60, so you should not force 480i, but rather boot the game in 50Hz pressing the B button, then choose 60Hz mode, then it will be okay.
Still, with such input options on your monitor, getting an S-VIDEO cable is the least you can do. Check for second hand market, you may find some for cheap.

Re: PAL game on NTSC-J GC doesn't work properly
So, if I push B button while starting the game, I can switch to 60hz? I will try, thx. And the other question: You said that I need to forget about using composite. But does it really make a big difference between composite and S-video? Composite looks just fine, better than ps2 s-video for example. Or if I change the cable to S-video, will it cause better working with PAL games? Sorry If I somewhere went wrong, just can't understand why need go to s-video or something else.

I've tried several times, but I can get hz switch menu open( It doesn't pop up
Re: PAL game on NTSC-J GC doesn't work properly
That's because it doesn't exist, as per our compatibility list.
Your only real solution is using analog component video. You can try setting AVE Compatibility to AVE N-DOL, but your display may not be able to decode NTSC 50.

Okay, thanks a lot!
Re: PAL game on NTSC-J GC doesn't work properly
Digital AV to HDMI devices now are cheaper than getting a PAl GC or a Wii from any region (to get native RGB or Component), plus you will be future-proof with HDMI.
Is there a valid reason for not using an NTSC version of this game?
My bad, after a quick search, I stubled across a random database that seems to be erroneous.

I wasn't sure the S-Video would solve the problem, so I mentionned it had to be confirmed.Your only real solution is using analog component video. You can try setting AVE Compatibility to AVE N-DOL, but your display may not be able to decode NTSC 50.

Re: PAL game on NTSC-J GC doesn't work properly
Consider using a PAL-to-NTSC video converter box if your TV or GameCube struggles with the signal. These devices can properly translate the signal for your setup, ensuring smooth playback of FMVs and correct colors. that's not my neighbor
