Move over NGP.... Introducing the Gamecube Fusion!

Post by Ashen » Fri Apr 29, 2011 4:19 am

First of all I want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone on the GC-FOREVER forums that helped and supported me along the way to this point. Without all of you, none of this would ever have been possible. Also a big thank you to everyone from the three major portablizing forums for your help and support! That being said, One unit is done!! I must admit, even though there have been some unforeseen "bumps in the road" getting it here. It turned out pretty damn drool-worthy and I'm 100% happy with it.

So without further ado:

looking good there in the video. I watched it without sound for now but I'll see it properly when I get home. Two others who saw it were totally amazed, but both said the same thing "fan sounds a bit loud".

This looks very, very awesome!
Woah, can't believe how good-looking the end-result is.

Thanks everyone! It really does feel good to have these first two projects half done now. :D I'll admit it didn't turn out perfect or even exactly how I pictured it in the beginning. But I still love it. The biggest bummer is the battery's. There will have to be a redesign in the future to incorporate Li-Ions instead of Li-Polymers. The decision to leave them out was literally made only a few days ago though, after reading Techknott's post about his mishap with Li-Po's. Far to late in the game for me to change things.

I'll admit the fan I ended up using is a bit louder than I wanted. The video makes it seem really bad though because for w/e reason the fan sounds louder when the unit is laying against something... like my legs in the video. Its really not as bad as it seems in the video though. Once you start a game up and turn the sound on a bit I don't even notice the fan running. I had planned to use some ATI GPU cooling fans that I had laying around which were much quieter, both fans died though. One after it was already mounted in the case.... that was fun...

Still lots of work to do on the second unit! I'll admit though.... I may be a bit distracted the next few days. This is only the beginning of the awesome GC portables you will see in the next few months I'm sure.

The buttons left and right of the HOME Button are for brightnes ans volume?
Wich function get the Home Button?
Some inside pictures would be nice.
Is it possible to let the Fusion be on when you power on the console?

Hmmm... I'm not sure exactly how long it took me. I started work on both units right after the Wiikey discovery was made by Zenloc though. I'd say its been a solid 2 months or so of planning and work on both units. Production should go a bit smoother now that I have an idea what I'm doing ;P I have to admit these first two units are my first experience in portable making, so there have been some trials and "bumps in the road".

The buttons below the screen control the volume and brightness controls. The home button brings up a menu on screen that allows the adjust of brightness/contrast/color

Inside Pics of both case halves before the final wiring!:

As you can see, the stuffs on the sides of the motherboard (audio amp/regulator/wiikey) I just kind of tossed in there haphazardly. being that I left out the battery's I had plenty of space that they would have taken up and didnt have to make things to neat. If I ever wanted to I could still open the unit back up and swap the regulator for Zenlocs custom and install the batterys still... I doubt I ever will though... I just feel better having the Li-Po batterys seperate in these units.... Future Portables will be designed with Li-Ions in mind.. heh.

Does it have memory card slots at all or just sd card slots? If not I'd consider refining it a bit to include one if possible. Either way a GC F***ing portable! I love it!

ok just watched the vide thats awsome it has a mem card too! the only thing I could think of that I'd like to see added to it would be to just make slot b an actual memory card port to allow us to use devices like a USB Gecko if we should want to do so.

Other than that I would love to buy one of these.

Thats the plan. I will be revising my design a bit though. I'm not sure how quicly I will be able to produce them but like I said, it should go a bit faster now that I have a bit of experience now. I know Zenloc also has plans to produce a bunch of his own design and he is a very talented expetience modder as well. Once I get these ones complete you guys here will be the first to know of my plans for the future :)

Thanks so much for all the positive feedback everyone!

A lot of wires.
And all not color coded ;)
*RESPECT*

I never opend a GC PAD is it that white board.
The button layout would be typically for cube.
