I have two gamecubes:

This one that I made

And this is a working cube with all ports removed, and an extended disc drive connector.

A Drive connector extension? Interesting, but when you already soldering all those small cables you could also connect a Wiikey Fusion or a Wode?

Thats a motherboard that I was going to use in the portable I made. But I removed the disc drive port, and couldn't wire up the wiikey, so I just bought a new motherboard, and used the disc drive without relocating the connector. Then after I finished the portable, I pulled the disc drive connector off a dead mobo, and wired it up like that on the working motherboard. Once I get some homebrew running on the disc drive, I'll check my ipl and probably try wiring up a wiikey again.

as im in the middle of doing a facelift on my new gal, i have been considering case design functionality of Hushtrap, Viper, and Icedcube in regards to the removal of discs. Based on how much i have cut away thus far,(currently more than the pic shown above) I cannot see any easy way to remove a disc based on the Hushtrap and Viper designs..they appear to require a very strict muscle memory disc removal process rather than an easy flowing drunken stupor removal process...
seeing as how i would typically find myself in a drunken stupor type scenario, i have considered the possibility of adding an Icedcube style dip in the front of the unit...

for those with a Icedcube case:
1. how functional is the dip in front for removing discs?
2. have you had the opportunity to compare Icedcube to other aftermarket cases??

IMO, the Icedcube is the nicest full-size replacement case. Materials and fit/finish are fine, though the quality of the plastic used might not be quite as good as original Nintendo. Regular DVDs are a tight fit and on mine I had to pay special attention to centering the drive assembly to eliminate rubbing. Removing discs is easy enough. Another plus is that this design doesn't obscure the front LED. I've see a few other replacement cases and was less impressed.

My DOL-001 with both Xeno GC and Viper GC Extreme/USB adapter in Icedcube case:

The switch on the side is for disabling the Xeno GC (shorts reset to ground). I've since removed the Viper GC/USB and switch as I wasn't in need of those features anymore now that I have a modded Wii.

Hey Noldor
It may be a little off-topic but can you tell me how can I make an adapter for a keyboard? did you just crammed http://www.thegametrain.com/products/Wi ... apter.html that inside your cube? can you make a thread about it? I'd really appreciate it, I need some online PSO!

No, you just need to open up the case where the ps/2 port is.
And then just solder the Data/5V/GND lines to a controller port ^^

I took a picture how it was before so i could reassamble it, if i would need to ^^

is the 4th port still usable with a controller or did your wiring dedicated it to the keyboard..
if dedicated, i imagine a simple switch would allow dual use...

Didn't try it out, but i think it would even be possible without a switch.
Never really thought about it. ^^
