~ The Homeland Project ~
Re: ~ The Homeland Project ~
Not sure if anyone has noticed but krom (PeterLemon) has begun translating HomeLand and has got quite far already!

Re: ~ The Homeland Project ~
Sounds nice. I have two copies of it lying around waiting for online play. A translated game would be awesome.
Thanks for the information, emu_kidid

Fantastic. Any way I can donate to him or something? I'd really like for the Homeland translation to be finished.emu_kidid wrote:Not sure if anyone has noticed but krom (PeterLemon) has begun translating HomeLand and has got quite far already!
Re: ~ The Homeland Project ~
Hi everyone,
I just joined after seeing my Homeland translation mentioned by emu_kidid here.
It is 1 of 2 GC translation projects I have started recently, the other is Lupin The Third - Lost Treasure Under The Sea which is here:
https://github.com/PeterLemon/GC/tree/m ... ta%20Hihou
About the Homeland translation, I only found out about this game very recently, & was surprised how few translations there were for JPN only GC games...
I was shown this forum and used as much info from here I could find to get me started.
My main goal is to translate the 1st sections until I get to the already nicely translated youtube Homeland Book Videos by Puutan here:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... e=view_all
Once I get to this stage it will greatly speed up my work, as I am not a native Japanese speaker, so use a combination of Google translate, & JPN -> ENG dictionaries atm.
Any help would be appreciated for the text I have already translated which can be found in this directory:
https://github.com/PeterLemon/GC/tree/m ... eLand/Text
I have a paypal account if you want to donate to this project, you can give me a PM for my paypal email.
Anyway, I will try to get more work done & update here with progress I make.
Thanks for all the help on this forum, which helped get this project started.

Awesome to see the work you've done on this patch! noticed i had to rename the xdelta3 patch to just xdelta to be able to use the patch and from a quick try it seem to be working quite well![krom] wrote:Hi everyone,

Is there anything else that I/we can do to help you besides donating? I would really REALLY like to see this project finished. I have a few friends who are from Japan and live in the USA, if that's of any use.[krom] wrote:Hi everyone,

Yeah sure, if you & your friends can check the current translation text files in this directory:Castellano wrote:Is there anything else that I/we can do to help you besides donating? For example the 2 lines like this (you do not have to worry about the hex stuff below): https://github.com/PeterLemon/GC/blob/m ... .txt#L5-L6
& just make sure it is a decent English translation from the Japanese that would be great.
If you find anything wrong just notify me here, & I'll try to fix them all up in the game to be correct.
Thanks for your help.

Re: ~ The Homeland Project ~
So I just recently stumbled across this game and consequently this forum, sorry for the possibly dumb question but are your translations actually patchable into the game at this point? I know extracting things had been a sticking point for a long time and just wanted to know if you managed to do so and if these translations are just for when someone figures out how to extract the text files or if you managed to do so and therefore translation is all that's left to be done. I'm very interested in seeing this project finished and just got excited seeing these recent posts that look like progress might actually be being made. Thanks![krom] wrote:Hi everyone,

Yes the GC iso file is directly patchable using xdelta3, or by using the bass src I have provided, full instructions are here:

Thanks for testing, I renamed those files to .xdelta3 to make sure people know to use xdelta 3 to patch the files, I had a friend who thought it was an xdelta 1 file, & it did not work for him...
I use command line utils myself to test the patches, & the extension has not been a problem for me, I'll decide whether to rename them to just .xdelta again, if too many people have problems.
I have decided to make my PayPal email live, if anyone wants to donate to the project you can donate to: krom@gbadev.org
Thanks for the help guys =D
Re: ~ The Homeland Project ~
Can't wait till we can organise some homeland online game night with gcforever members. Also great for lupin III.
If you need fluent translators/proofreaders, have you tried contacting all the people that offered translation help in this thread, including putaan?
It always felt like this project was stuck because of the editing part and not the translating part.
Also you could do some help wanted ad on various forums such as romhacking or gbatemp .
I have mixed feelings about donations for these projects but I think I'll still make a donation coz I had lost hope and that saves me money from buying a JP cube anyways lol

Re: ~ The Homeland Project ~
Hi Yohanov,
You make some great points!
I am a big Lupin III fan, so when I found out there was a JPN only GC Lupin game, I thought this was really ace.
The Lupin game was my 1st GC game I started translating, & it taught me howto edit banner GFX & banner information, & get a nice system up & running for direct ISO patching.
I told emu_kidid that I was messing around with GC translation stuff, & he pointed me to this forum, where I found out about all the Homeland stuff.
I found it so strange that many of these amazing games had not been translated yet!!
It was emu_kidid who suggested I try out translating Homeland, so you have him to thank for helping me start this project
Some text is directly patchable using ASCII English in place of the SHIFT-JIS Japanese, but some text is only patchable with SHIFT-JIS English characters over the top (depending on the font used in game).
I might make a tutorial here, on my exact process of translating, so anyone with some free time could help out =D
The only reason I have put a donation link up is that it was requested by some people.
I would like to stress that I only want people to donate if they can afford to, I would hate for someone to donate to me & have to miss out on something else they were saving up for
Any donations will make me concentrate on this Homeland translation, rather than working on any other projects I have going on atm.
At this current point I have received 1 donation, & I am very grateful for that =D
Anyway thanks for your thoughts, this is easily becoming the most popular translation project I have ever started, it's so great to see people are interested.
You make some great points!
Yep it would be so cool to play with others online, this game is very interesting for that aspect!Yohanov wrote:Can't wait till we can organise some homeland online game night with gcforever members. Also great for lupin III.

I have not contacted Puutan yet, that would be a really great idea, I do not even know if he has seen my stuff yet... Yep I reckon you are right, the text editing would be pretty hard to automate, as there are different styles of text to deal with...Yohanov wrote:It always felt like this project was stuck because of the editing part and not the translating part.

I want to make sure you're aware of Atlas, a program by Klarth. http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/224/[krom] wrote:Yep I reckon you are right, the text editing would be pretty hard to automate, as there are different styles of text to deal with...Yohanov wrote:It always felt like this project was stuck because of the editing part and not the translating part.

Assuming that the ASCII-allowed and ASCII-banned text is distinguished somehow on the original disc, it should be possible to make Atlas do the dirty work. Or you could write everything as normal ASCII and have Atlas always convert it to shift-JIS.
Re: ~ The Homeland Project ~
You can also try contacting Puutan from his site mail form http://form1.fc2.com/form/?id=555635
Yeah it would be great if you could do a tutorial, or even just record yourself doing the editing.
There is also giftpia that looks like a good game and a translation was already made but there is no patch yet so that would be a good project for someone who wanna get into gc translation hack : http://kirameki.altervista.org/eng/giftpia.php
GC has not a lot of jp exclusives but most of them are pretty interesting :p
But as you noticed the 6th console gen is not really popular with romhackers, most project are done on the 3rd and 4th gens and handhelds.

Hi rayman
I will need todo more translation work to see if this is indeed the case...
Thanks for your help =D
Hi Yohanov,
He did say if I get stuck on anything specific, he will try to help me out.
Anyway take care guys, I'll let you know anything new I do right here.
I was not aware of this program, I will check it out.rayman wrote:I want to make sure you're aware of Atlas, a program by Klarth. http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/224/
Unfortunately there is no distinguishing feature of the ASCII-banned text, it may be in certain blocks of text that all that blocks text is ASCII-banned text.rayman wrote:Assuming that the ASCII-allowed and ASCII-banned text is distinguished somehow on the original disc, it should be possible to make Atlas do the dirty work. Re: ~ The Homeland Project ~
Hey Krom, google trad recently updated to "neural network", and apparently the quality of the japanese>english translation has improved a lot.
Did you feel the difference ? I'm curious to know your opinion. I wonder if now google trad can be good enough for project like this, for games that have relatively simple japanese. Using google then polishing the english trad.

Hi Yohanov,
Oh btw I had a little go at starting Giftpia you can find it here: https://github.com/PeterLemon/GC/tree/m ... te/Giftpia
Only the title screen, options, and save/load screens are translated...
It also seems to not have VWF out of the box, for ascii text.
I have not checked that out yet, but I'll def be using it alot soon to see any improvments!Yohanov wrote:Did you feel the difference ? I'm curious to know your opinion.

Re: ~ The Homeland Project ~
i've been following this project for a few years now, and i noticed a grand leap in progress. this has got me excited because like most of us here ive been longing to play this in english. my question is, whats to be done and what has been done? are we waiting on tranlations for the game or did we finally get to the repacking? also @krom whats with the github link? thats got me super confused...
i would also like to point out that there are ways to play gc online using a wii.

Re: ~ The Homeland Project ~
The github link is where you can download the patch and apply it to the ISO... Current patch is only a partial translation.moon_kitsune wrote:whats with the github link? thats got me super confused...
You can't play homeland online with a wii right now, as devolution only emulates the modem adaptor (for online PSO) and the LAN BBA functions (for LAN mk/1080/kirby) but not the online BBA functions (needed for online Homeland).moon_kitsune wrote:i would also like to point out that there are ways to play gc online using a wii.
On the devolution thread I asked tuedj if he thought he could add it but he said he wasn't interested by Homeland...
Well if we get the english patch done maybe he'll change his mind but didn't he make his stuff only work with original CDs? Kind of an issue to play a translation hack.
Maybe Nintendon't will suport online BBA someday but that's unlikely.

can i get a link to said partital patch and instruction as to how it is done?
Re: ~ The Homeland Project ~
Would it be possible to make a cheat so the menu of the game is translated? I bought the game twice and this would make things easier. So far not a single game worked for me over SD, so at least that would be interesting.

Re: ~ The Homeland Project ~
Text problems in Dolphin are usually solved by creating a game ini file in the User/GameSettings folder for the game you're playing and putting
in it. The texture cache can mess up text in many games if you don't do this.
Code: Select all
[Video_Settings]
SafeTextureCacheColorSamples = 0
Re: ~ The Homeland Project ~
This looks like a kerning issue due to using a variable width font even though the game is expecting a fixed width font (as most eastern fonts are).
