great then we agree, it might not be a good idea for CairnisReed to "discard" the dvd drive and should consider keeping it just in case...

Alright I can not find anywhere to buy a wiikey fusion, are there sites I'm just not seeing?
I'd really like to buy it from a place in america.

Official Wiikey Fusion production has apparently stopped, which is why they're kind of hard to find now I guess.

modchipsdirect.com offers a "high quality" 3rd party clone Wiikey Fusion. I've tested them myself and they work fine.

I'd love to eventually get a parts list and maybe some PCB's made and be able to make up some real homebrew Wiikey Fusions. That'd be awesome. Emu, you have a flash/firmware dump of the chip, no?

Ok so, I've been reading everything I can but I'm still really lost in terms of audio, video and power.

If I'm going to use the stock regulator, my batteries can be a maximum of 12v, the screen must use 12v or less, and the audio must use 12v or less?
What kind of batteries do I want? Lithium Ion, NiCd, Nimh?

Edit: Basically ANY screen works? As long as the battery/power sources provides its required voltage?
Something like this would be just find to solder into the av port?

Ok so my wiikey got here, still waiting on the adapter board to make connecting it easier.

Going through the tutorial on installing it, there was an image on how to connect the adapter board to the gc mobo:
Image

Im a bit confused on the adapter board orientation, is it oriented in the picture how it is supposed to be in the diagram?
Or should the board be flipped around like this?
Image

Also, in the diagram, the grounds on the top right of the adapter board and the normally closed tact switch on the left, I dont quite understand which is supposed to go where.
And the 3.43v on the adapter board, does that get wired directly to the regulator board?

No, the FFC adapter board is oriented correctly in the first picture. Just wire all the grounds from the adaper board to a common ground. Ground is ground is ground, it doesn't matter where you get it from. #.43v can be taken from anywhere on the board that supplies it, or just take it from the regulator like you said.

To answer some of your previous Q's, You're going to want to use Li-Ion/polymer batteries. I recommend Li-Ion because of heat/safety concerns of Li-Po's. But if you have a roomy case and can keep the Li-Po's away from other things that are sharp/produce heat then by all means pick your poison.

Which brings me to the regulator. Seriously, unless you're on a super tight budget go for a custom regulator setup: http://forums.modretro.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=2844 It'll allow you to run off a 7.4v Li-Ion setup, not to mention it makes managing space and battery power much, much easier. If you're hellbent on going with the original regulator, go for a 14.8v Li-Ion setup. The stock regulator will take up to 30v and chug along happily. Nintendo sure knows how to build rock solid machines.

Pretty much all of those "reversing car monitor" screens on e-bay accept composite and will run on anything from 5v-14v. I recommend getting a 5" one. you get the most bang for your buck IMO.

As for audio, there is nothing better than these babies: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-Portable-A ... 8783198060 and a set of DS Lite speakers to go with it.

Ashen, unfortunately I only have a flash dump of the 2MB flash. There's code that goes on the Actel to program it/etc which hasn't and probably won't get dumped (cloners would have it though).
