Just to clarify about the LEDs:

From the look of it, the Wiikey team wrote code to control the status LEDs on the Wiikey, but never included the LEDs in the actual Wiikey hardware implementation. So, that sort of makes the reprogrammed XenoGC into sort of a "super" Wiikey, because it has flashing LEDs while a real Wiikey doesn't. Also, the LEDs do not work the same way as in the XenoGC, so I was wrong about using the same LED indicator code for both. Cool that a Wiikey can be turned into a XenoGC and vice versa! Without any LEDs on the PCB, the Wiikey was probably even cheaper to produce than the XenoGC.

LEDs are like $0.10 a piece or less with a large bulk buy....
not sure if overall sales cost was a deciding factor....
but...every penny counts when not having to purchase the LEDs and pocket the extra savings....
