6 x screws on Gamecube heatsink

Hi All,

I was wondering if the 6 x screws into the heat sink were necessary as they were a pain to try and get back in after changing cases.

Thanks,

Luke.

you need something to hold the heatsink flush on the chips, doesn't necessarily have to be the screws, but you wouldn't want the heatsink to move away and either overheat the chips or potentially short something out. Keep in mind when those heat transfer pads (grey stuff) heat up, the heatsink can easily slide on them.

put the screws back in....its a safer choice than trying to save time....and a magnetic tip screwdriver might help make things easier...or just more practice...

You may find it easier if you lift the mobo off first and then check that the tabs that the screws go into are still straight; they easily get pushed down so that the holes are no longer aligned.

First time you crack open a cube the thermal pads typically hold the heatsink in place but running the thing 24/7 without the screws is a bad idea.
