Hi all, hooked up the gamecube again :)

Hi all,

I found this forum since I was looking for alternatives to the component-cable :)
I saw that someone working on hdmi output, that would be great!

Right now I'm playing Zelda Windwaker again on the gamecube (My tv only supports composite video, bleh). I didn't have this much fun on any other newer generations of consoles.

The other forum I'm active in is atariage.com.

regards,
Roland.

AtariAge is a good forum too (i'm registered, but not so active...) :)
I have the Harmony and the Lynx flashcard, both found from this site.
Welcome !

Composite isn't so bad if it's a PAL signal.

if you have a pal cube I've got a pretty cheap alternative to component.

buy one of these and use this as a guide on how to wire up the component pins (you get better video if you wire up 220u capacitors in line). you now have some pretty damn clean 576i.

Gamecube doesn't output component. That expensive cable turns digital into analog.

wiihd hdmi adapter accepts video signal from both PAL and NTSC pins 7,9,11
this translates to being able to accept RGB or YPBPR

so yes it will work on a PAL GC to output a digital signal conversion
or if you want to complicate things, use an MX chip to convert the digital signal to analog then use the wiihdmi adapter to convert the analog signal to digital....that works also...i tested it a few years ago..

because mega didn't say it outright, the PAL cube will output interlaced component video.

So does that wii2hdmi expect component (as in YPbPr) or rgb?

I've now tried another scart socket and that one looks clearer and sharper (that one probably accepts rgb) but now I get something that looks like interference. Tv's aren't what they used to be. I Never had those problems with my Sony Wega ten years ago... So at the moment I can choose between blurry + dotcrawl and sharp + interference :)

I also have a scaler that accepts rgb (dvdo duo) but I have to get it fixed since it is broken. It worked very good with my dreamcast through vga, totally interference free (unlike the chinese brand vga>hdmi converter I used). So the scaler will produce the best image.

Ofcourse I could also use the wii with the cheap component cable, but I just like the gamecube a lot. Are there any video quality differences between the wii and the gamecube?

dont remember a link but a gamecube with a digital component cable does produce a better image than the wii does

I found this comparison: http://retrorgb.com/gamecubevswii.html

The wii looks a bit blurry.

I don't trust the first picture since you can see some of the rgb triplets on the gamecube side but not on the wii side which could indicate the photo of the wii is out of focus.

Second picture:

I see some ghosting around the text.
