WASP, MegaDrive v3, and/or Swiss being picky about SD Cards

So, I recently got my WASP and MegaDrive v3 from BadAssConsoles. Swiss appears the IPL just fine, but Swiss hangs on "Init Wiikey Fusion" Most of the time with all the SD cards I tested. Is there a way that I have to format the card or what is it? I've only had 3 successful boots of many, two on a 4GB Sandisk and one on a 2GB AData, FAT32 and FAT16 respectively.

Swiss only cares that your card is FAT16/FAT32 when it comes to WKF/WASP, you should check the flex from WASP to SD

If stuck on init wiikey fusion message appears, check the ribbon cable to the card slot.

The flex seems to be fine and I have re-seated it a few times. Would P29 be capable of causing this issue? I may have not soldered it as well as I thought I did.

Yes it's possible.

I re-did the soldering of P29, still no fix. If I let the card sit in the slot for a while and then turn the cube on it'll work, but a recently changed card causes the issue. Also, the values for things such as available space do not display correctly.

Update to the latest version from the nightly builds thread.

As in re-flashing it?

most of the WASP were originally updated around r258...that is sufficient enough to allow an easy update to latest version...
viewtopic.php?p=26057#p26057 < flash instructions
the alternative would have been to send each wasp untouched and untested with original WKF firmware which can be tricky to flash to swiss for some..the other alternative would be to update each WASP upon order which only slows things down as i experienced during previous sales runs...
sitting down for an entire day to flash all WASPs is more time efficient....
so just to make sure, other than WASP on an older version of swiss on flash, is everything working now?

I have updated and that went smoothly, as far as I can tell. It does properly recognize the SD card and all the correct storage info, the only remaining issue is when I turn it on immediately after inserting a new SD Card, I have to wait a bit before things initialize properly.

can you be a little more descriptive? that will help with trying to provide a solution

Basically, if I put an SD Card in and turn on the cube almost immediately after doing so, it will hang on the Init screen. On the other hand, if I put in a card and then wait about a minute or so, it will start up just fine. It's almost as if the SD Card has to "ferment" in the slot a bit before being recognized. One other thing to note is that the blue LED on the Wasp stays lit if it hangs on the Init screen.

ferment is a very descriptive way to put it...
as for the blue LED staying lit...
that will always happen for different reasons:
1. card could be on the verge of failing
2. card timing incompatibility
3. WKF firmware fails to initialize the card
4. swiss fails to initialize the card
almost sounds like cards might be the issue since the MEGAdrive and WASP were already tested...
just to rule out other possibilities, what mainboard version are you using and have the WKF switches been adjusted to correct region?

The mainboard is DOL-CPU-30 and it is Japanese. I switched DIP 2 to off and left the rest on, which I'm pretty sure is the correct region setting. As for the SD Card, I have been trying other cards that I have nearby, so unless they are all derped and/or dying then I have my doubts. But yeah, if I put them in and wait a bit before I turn things on then things seem to be working just fine.

do the different cards all autoboot or all autoload or both?

Every card that I've tested is autobooting.

that is interesting...
either you have all cards capable of performing autoboot....lucky you...
or
sometimes when WKF/WASP fail to detect a card or if the FFC is not entirely correct, it will just autoboot because it knows something might be in there due to 3v3 sense on card detect from the "locking" card slots...i think...
i wonder if that is whats going on which might have also been causing lockups or freezing on card init...
now after thinking about this a little more i remember seeing this once before a long time ago but i dont recall what it was related to...if it was anything...
i really dont remember....ive been using all the same cards and i remember the issue went away...
maybe i reseated the main FFC cable or erased and rewrote the flash...i wish i could remember..

I'm going to do some more thorough testing later to see if rips/homebrews are loading properly (would have done it yesterday but I was way down with a fever.) It seems the problem only seems to occur if the Cube is on immediately after an insert at the moment, so I'm going to make sure everything will actually load properly as well.
