Hi Ralf,

Would you be able to port Kart Bot Race to LAN Mode?
Despite forcing VS mode in LAN using gecko codes, I cannot get that code to operate.

If it helps with your testing, use cristian64's code to run LAN mode with 1 console.

Hi Ralf,

Could we get a code that changes 2 player split screen to a vertical split? Some HUD elements would need to be moved of course.

A code to also extend the duration of some animations like hanging off the back of the kart would be nice.

Hi Ralf,

I can confirm the vertical split-screen code works great on Dolphin! I may do some editing in the NTSC-U widescreen mod to have this look correct in 2P mode, thank you!

Do you believe it would be possible to have CPUs working in LAN mode? Your Autopilot code works just fine in LAN mode if all consoles have it enabled.
Perhaps another idea could be: If a kart receives no input for about 5 seconds, enable autopilot for that kart. If input is received, disable autopilot.

Thanks again, your codes have helped a lot with improving LAN mode.

Just tested the above codes using a direct connection netplay session between two portable Dolphin instances. Was able to play a 2P VS Race without any desyncs.
What differences does this have from the previous implementation of the netplay fullscreen code?

I was thinking, but if one could replicate some of LAN mode's variables then perhaps those old netplay codes won't desync?

The experimental netplay code you just posted will obviously need to adjust the HUD or force the use of 1P HUD, but it works great otherwise!

The previous versions of the netplay fullscreen code are drawing only the player viewport on a console, but not the opponent viewport and so desyncs will occurre very often. The new version draws always both viewports on both consoles (the code just moves the opponent viewport to the offscreen area and adjusts the height, the aspect ratio and the FOVY of the viewports).

Regarding adjusting HUD elements, the positions of almost all HUD elements are hardcoded and must be adjusted for every single element (e.g. the "Time 00:00:000" indicator has 10 elements and the "Laps 1/3" indicator has 4 elements), so its a lot of work and results in a very huge code.

An advantage here is that Dolphin is capable of handling large codes. But that would definitely require a lot of time to create a 2 player, 3 player, and 4 player code, and the respective amount of codes for each play variation...
I was thinking LAN mode could help with this by using LAN mode without other consoles connected, but LAN mode can't be entered when playing Dolphin over netplay. If there was a code to force a single console LAN session to start, it would be an option to test. The game doesn't require network connectivity in a single console LAN session after it starts.

I do have questions about two of your codes Ralf.

1. Could Rear View Camera rotate faster or instantly instead? Ideally have it only apply while X or Y is pressed (this could be two different code options for which button you want as rear view camera). This would behave like modern Mario Kart camera options.

2. For your custom Bob-Omb Blast HUD code, can it be tied to the kart/player number instead of by splitscreen division? That way it can work on LAN mode.

I would appreciate these a lot, but they aren't essential.

Unfortunately since there is no way to force a console to use a specific kart number (this changes every time a LAN session is started), a code for specifying a kart number won't work for LAN.


Perhaps it might have to do with my testing as well, but I cannot get the points to win modifier code to work. Every time I do a Bob-Omb Blast match with it enabled the battle immediately ends with Kart 1 winning.

The Alt. Points Indicator codes and the Required Points To Win Modifier codes require the actual number of karts/players to work! Usually, the game stores the number of karts at address 0x803B147E as a half-word (16 bit value).

My Display Kart 3/4 Points codes have a max number of karts validity check to prevent crashes (invalid kart 3/4 address pointers when you play the Bob-omb Blast mini-game in two karts mode) and are using then the kart 2 address pointer instead of the invalid pointer. The Required Points To Win Modifier code has a default of 0 points to win for invalid number of players values (stored at address 0x803B1478).

So, the Bob-omb Blast LAN patch is rubbish and the cause of the problem! You can test it with the following codes:

That would make sense considering the normally unsupported nature of Bob-Omb Blast in LAN mode, especially since we are forcing the game mode to load. Thanks for explaining!
Judging by this though, there is likely a way to fix the invalid number of players value, but the question about this is how to make the game set it automatically.

I'll give the codes above a try and report back later today.

There used to be some compromises with having 8 player Bob-Omb Blast load into LAN mode, such as P5-P8 causing a crash due to star point counters, then there was a crash if the single player HUD was loaded.
Codes have worked around this issue, but your custom point counter isn't affected by the single player HUD crash.

Unfortunately I did not see a difference with LAN mode and the "Actual Number of Players Modifer" codes.

I'll have to do some further testing with the Bob-Omb Blast codes to figure out which part of those codes are causing the issue.
Perhaps the combination of those codes may have introduced some unforseen bug.

Hi Ralf,

The rear view camera code works great! By any chance, can you make a d-pad version as well?
One that activates on dpad up, and maybe a different version that activates if any dpad button is pressed.

Thanks for the Rear View Camera code Ralf, can you make a code that the L Button use for items similar to Mario Kart DS, Wii, 7, 8/Deluxe and World.
