GC DIY component cables question

Hi, i'm new here, but I have noticed this site has a lot of discussion about mods from the Gamecube's digital out, so my question is: is it possible to use the YCbCr signal that comes out of the digital port and display it directly in 480p component (on a display that accepts YCbCr input), without any digital to analog conversion or other proprietary parts that the GC component cables had?

Not on conventional hardware. You'd have to find a monitor (if they exist) that accepts Nintendo's version of the format.

I don't think a digital to digital chip has been designed yet, for encoding it into standard YCbCr.

What about an upscaler that could accept YCbCr, and convert it to something like HDMI?

That would be impossible because what comes out of the digital port isn't a video signal.

I suppose. Transmitting the image as data instead of video will complicate things...

Ok, that makes sense, but are there any common digital to analog converters that would be able to function in the same way as the chip in the GC comp. cables?

Eventually, whether digital or analog it has to be custom built.

There is Unseen's component cable clone which does rgb, component and almost working dvi. You'll need to order the parts and PCB and solder it then flash it yourself though.
