Wirelessly connecting GBA to GCN as a controller?

Newcomer incoming. Pardon my amateurism. (I'm not usually a hardware guy, although I've been doing more with hardware lately.)
There is one concept I don't think I've seen explored anywhere, despite having searched high and low for it. Has anyone ever considered (or even successfully pulled off) connecting a GBA to the GameCube wirelessly as a controller, Wavebird-style? I'd absolutely love to have this myself, but there seem to be zero resources for it.
Basically I'm trying to use the GBA as a controller for the Game Boy Player/Game Boy Interface without having to rely on the GBA-GCN link cable. If the Wavebird can do it, in theory the GBA should be able to as well.
