Can the Datel FreeLoader be used to boot .dol from SD card?

So, I'm looking around at the options to launch homebrews.
It seems the simplest way would be to use the SD Media Launcher. Problem is that the only thing that I can easily fine online to buy for a good price is the FreeLoader.
Can the FreeLoader be used as a SD Media launcher? I've read somewhere that the 3 products (Action Replay - SD Media Launcher - Free Loader) basically contained the same software (minus the Action Replay part for the two other). Is this actually the case?
All I want to do is to be able to launch .dol files from somewhere, I don't have imports to load, and I would prefer to not have to burn any disks. (it's an hassle
)
If not, what would be the best and easiest (and cheapest) option to launch homebrews on a PAL GameCube?
