I guess I'm getting confused here.
¿Wasn't it going to be connected to the port in the bottom?
¿Is using this EXI/memory port faster than using SD reader?

Chile, now since to Argentina it would be 6euros, I guess wouldn't be more expensive to brought them here...

Mmmm, thinking about it.

Serial Port is the same as any memory card slot, they are all "Serial Ports", all with the same speed. The reason it's been produced for a memory card slot is that it would be quite a tight fit in the underneath slot and also, the original author, never had it working in the serial port, it was simply placed there but wired to the memory card port B.

ok, by the way is there enough current on the 5V supply of the exi port to power a 2.5" Sata HDD? I have enough space inside of my cube to fit such a hdd inside.

Helllo.

To echo another poster's question, will this work on the Wii as well?

Thanks.

Alas, there is currently no way to launch Gamecube games from USB, because, when the Wii goes into Gamecube mode, it disables the USB ports.
There are some inroads in this as of recently (DIOS-MIOS), but it will be a long time before it is as refined as the existing Wii game USB loaders.
Loading from SD would be a very good solution in the meantime.

Terrible news!

Well, that makes the answer to my question even more relevant:
Could there be an SD (through Gecko) to hard drive adapter for the Wii?

Nope, there can't be a SDGecko to HDD adapter - The SDGecko is just a connector for an SD card and it's all software based.

I guess I'm confusing the two paths that have been considered here in the forums and whether they apply to the Wii:

1) Running GCN games from and SD card, using the SD Gecko: it seems like this is already possible to some extent and, with time, could turn into a very compatible solution. This would be enough for me, if I could launch my Gamecube games from a 16GB SD card.

2) Running GCN games from a Hard Drive through the Gamecube memory card port: if compatible enough, this could be the Holy Grail, if access to the USB ports is never achieved in Gamecube mode.

Am I describing the two possibilities correctly and do they apply to the Wii (not just the GCN)?

Thanks.

If you purchase the upcoming homebrew HDD adapter, you can connect it with a memcard port. There is a modified SD-Boot 0.3 somewhere here that can be used with the adapter and SD-Boot 1.0 will also be compatible with it. Dont know if the HDD adapter will be compatible with the Wii, but I guess there is a good chance it will.

1. Definitely a viable solution. All SDHC cards are compatible up to 32GB (or larger - but untested).

2. Also possible, I am yet to test it, but I cannot see why it wouldn't work :D

You have my full interest, then
I'm surprised this is somewhat "flying under the radar" at GBATemp, when this could be the only solution to the disk-less GCN game loading issue.

One more, if you will:
Is compatibility currently limited by SDBoot or does it differ between the two methods?

I'll have to buy one of those adapters and already have an 80GB disc just waiting to be populated with GC goodness.

The issue lies in that you need a disc in the drive. Compatibility is pretty good, but of course, there's no Audio Streaming in selected games.

That's the most minor issues I've ever seen. I usually have a disc in, anyway.
The audio streaming wouldn't have anything to do with 32KB alignment, would it? I imagine the answer is "no" since it is too obvious, but just curious.

I guess I'll sit back, relax and wait to see what SDBoot 1.0 brings :)

Thanks for all the answers.
