troubles to detect games at first start-up

Post by doudoule83 » Mon Jan 03, 2022 6:12 pm

Hello,

I noticed a small problem with my gamecube.
The console has more trouble detecting the games on the first start-up (it takes longer to start or there is an error).
At the second start the detection is faster. Same thing if I turn off the console for a while.
IS this a normal behaviour ? Does it ajust the lens by itself ?
What could be the source of the problem? and can adjusting the potentiometer help?
My model is a DOL-101 white pearl and I only use original games (which have slight scratches)

Sticky lens rail grease issue, maybe…

Try to slide the lens block back and forth (without pressing on the lens!), gently but full stroke, once or twice or a little more. ;)

thank you
i've tryed but it didn't work.
detection still gets better and better over the startups.
then no issue during gameplay.
do you think a pot tweak can fix the issue ?

I think it's a delicate job to change the drive capacity along the way. :|

My best choice would be the Citrus3000psi Original
GC-loader :P
as it has official support from Swiss;
your firmware is now 2.0.0
remembering that who developed the GC-loader was "Black Dog Tech".
get the swiss job and the official gc-loader from there too.

https://console5.com/store/nintendo-gam ... d-pal.html get the optical drive cap kit, sounds like your capacitors are toast (literally :P)

Thank you.
I'll give it a try.
Do you have a tutorial for this ?
So pot tweak won't solve the issue for sure?

I don't, but any surface mount capacitor replacement video should be helpful enough, after that it's just a matter of matching up the right ones to replace them from the kit. If this is beyond your skill level it might be easier to just buy another used drive (people are selling them these days cause GCLoader has negated the need for a drive for many).

I thought it was weird they didn't remember the disc motor... Dirt can cause this problem when starting cold. But I recommend taking it to someone with experience to clean. I find it easy to damage this component.

I think the capacitors are worn because after 1 to 2 minutes the console detects the games. I nevertheless measured the potentiometer: 252 ohms, I passed it to around 200 ohms and there are no more worries for the moment. I should probably one day change the capacitors but for the moment it works. my model is DOL-101. thanks for your advices.
