Cutting up an official GC controller.
Cutting up an official GC controller.
Can't believe I never posted this stuff over here. I thought for sure I did...

Been doing a bit of work to see how small I can get the official GameCube controller, these are my notes so far. The pinout for the controller chip is accurate. You can wire all of the button signals right to the chip itself. If you don't care about retaining rumble I think we may actually be able to just remove the chip and wire everything directly to it. I'll be doing some tests over the next few days. Anyway here is what I've got so far. I figure where I've shown in these pics its safe to cut back to and retain full functionality. The Rumble part of the controller can be completely relocated.

I think we might need a sub forum labelled "Ashen Guides" or similar

@ Emu: Lol... I was trying to declutter the hardware/modding subforum a bit last night, but I got rid of a few stickied things and I added a few more. I was thinking of having kind of a "megasticky post" which would list links to modding related threads/guides/stuff in one thread instead of having 20 stickies. We'll see I guess.
@GameCube2: Well if you cut up a controller like I've shown, you can put it inside any other type of controller you want. With whatever layout you want. I agree about the d-pad, not a big fan, but then its not really used much.

Wow good picture quality and interesting guide.
Maybe you could put this in the wiki, too?

Check out this cheap CiRKA GC controller clone I got for my game cube portable. The buttons and stuff feel a little odd but seem to work.

But check out what I found inside it:
Some solder dripped onto the UP d-pad contact and the wires had never been trimmed after soldering! CiRKA CRAP!
