Is it possible to remove the clock crystal (as pictured here: http://i.imgur.com/gxfCU9v.png) and have the GCN still function relatively normally? Obviously all functions related to the RTC will not work, but will everything else still work? Would this be safe to do without damaging the system?
I would assume that the date/time would be eternally stuck at 00:00 on 1/1/2000, right?
I'm asking because I have a game whose random number generator functions off of the date/time, and in theory, a static date/time would make abusing this RNG easier.

It may work if the RTC is autonomous and that nothing in the workings of the console relys on RTC genrated interrupts, nor in-game timing.
Just trying probably won't hurt as long as you are able to put the crystal back in place if it doesn't work.
