....sorry for the "stupid" question...

it is possible...but ive never tested it....
i assume it would require cutting 5v supply on the mainboard to the DVD drive
then using a switch to route 5v power to MEGAdrive V6 when you want to use WASP. Then flip the switch to route power over to the DVD drive when you want to use the DVD drive...

it should work, but i have never tested that combination...

I've just ordered a V6 (and a V5 for other gamecube) with the idea to use it without losing the DVD Drive functionality...i've probably been hasty...and unless it is possible to vary the order by taking a V4..i think i'll have to test what you suggest!

I wonder if switching drives with Swiss booted would work. It'd be funny if it did.

Well, the risk should be about the same as hot plugging USB, HDMI, eSATA, or even controllers and memory cards. As long as the software supports hotswapping it works.

Hi Megalomaniac. I have two questions.

1) Concerning Megadrive v1 (first version released), is it possible to order it? I already have my Wiikey Fusion working on my Gamecube, but I want to use my optical drive also. So, I need the second board of Megadrive v1 kit, the Gamecube optical drive insert adapter which will allow direct FFC cable connection from the Gamecube optical drive to the Wiikey Fusion out (labeled "DVD").

2) If I order a Megadrive v1 I will use only the the insert adapter (to connect Wiikey Fusion FFC to optical drive). So, which pin of Gamecube motherboard should I solder to WKF audiofix of Megadrive v1 insert adapter?

Thank you.

Hi guys. Could someone answer my questions?

1) Concerning Megadrive v1 (first version released), is it possible to order it nowadays? I already have my Wiikey Fusion working on my Gamecube, but I want to use my optical drive also. So, I need the second board of Megadrive v1 kit, the Gamecube optical drive insert adapter which will allow direct FFC cable connection from the Gamecube optical drive to the Wiikey Fusion out (labeled "DVD").

2) If I order a Megadrive v1 (or make any other mod) I will use only the the insert adapter (to connect Wiikey Fusion FFC to optical drive). So, which pin of Gamecube motherboard should I solder to WKF audiofix of Megadrive v1 insert adapter (or Gamecube optical drive board)?

Thank you.

I have decided to drop that concept in favor of other design plans for connectivity. Those will be available soon once ive had a chance to design.

Ok pr0ton. This is boring. The new versions of megadrive are awesome, but v2, v3, v5 and v6 are only for replace DVD drive by Wiikey/WASP Fusion, and v4 is very expensive and I already have Wiikey Fusion installed on my GC (installing megadrive v4 will require re-connect the GC motherboard connector, and would be better just use the DVD drive insert adapter).

So, I will stay without audiostreaming on my GC.

I hope someday megalomaniac re-release megadrive v1 or just the DVD drive insert adapter (even he already said "no").

Yeah why exactly is v1 + v2 not going to production? I don't really remember their features but they looked nice when I first saw them.

V1 is like v5 but it solders on top of the board and you also have an insert that goes in the DVD drive's connector to use the wkf with it. V2 is basically v1 with an other board under it to add plug and play. So it's functionally identical to v3.

Yes and no. You can easily tap into 5v and AS on the v5, the only differences are no drive insert and bottom mount. Which is what I said.

Please read my sentences in the correct order. /troll

Megadrive V1 is the only version with DVD drive insert adapter. Audiostreaming and 5v is easy to solve, but there is no DVD drive insert adapter on the other versions and it's the most important part of the kit for us. Saying other version of Megadrive is like V1 it's the same to say "shemales are like girls, except for the penis" (the most important is missing).

Couldn't we just make an "opposite" megadrive? FFC to Disc drive only, and then use the ffc to connect to a wkf soldered beneath the mobo? Kinda like v4 just simplier and not as easy for most.

Iamdablasta, sure. If you retrieve the mobo's connector, you can do like a v3 but reverted with a v5 as long as Mega is willing to sell these with the ffc connector soldered in the opposite direction.

Unfortunately my motherboard connector is gone. But I guess DVD drive insert adapter will be re-released again as standalone kit or as part of another megadrive version. There is a lot of people looking for that.

V5+V6+sanding+cutting some traces = win.

Fun fact : my mind works better at 4:30am after more than 16 hours spent in front of my PC.

Hi guys. If do that:

1) Desolder the DVD drive connector from the GC motherboard.

2) Solder it to a megadrive v5.

3) Connect an inverted FFC cable (reverse direction FFC cable) between the megadrive v5 and Wiikey Fusion OUT (labeled DVD).

4) Connect the DVD drive connector to the GC DVD drive

5) Solder 5V and pin 28 directly from the motherboard to DVD drive.

Should it work?
